Back in the Luv Ya Blue days once when the Oilers opened with a loss, the next Monday Bum was quoted as saying "This is gonna be a long season." It was played over and over again, back-to-back on the radio (sort of the way Letterman finds a funny line and repeats it again and again) and it was hilarious. The difference is that we knew the Oilers would bounce back and the season would be productive and what Bum really meant was that over the course of the long season the Oilers would do well. This year for the Astros I have little certainty that is the case. I and many of my friends who have been life-long active supporters of the "Stros have said that this year we have felt less enthusiastic about the season than in any years we can remember. No other MLB team is oh-fer except the Astros. and to top it off, I used to love to listen to the games in my car on the radio even when they were struggling. Now with Capt. Mindless at the healm who barely can get in the play-by-play or the mention of the score during his ridiculous chatter about non-baseball issues and who seems to have challenges remembering the players names, I cannot force myself to listen. The last two years I actually have turned off the Astros as I come back into town on Sunday afternoons and I never did that in the first 40+ years of the team's existence. The product stinks and try as he might Drayton cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. (Another metaphor fit even better, but this is a family site.) I cannot wait until training camp opens.
Drayton...I hope i am wrong and in which case I will write that I was, but I think it's gonna be a llllooooonnnngggg season for you and the boys.
