Walk to Pence and hit by Feliz puts runners at the corners with no outs. Michaels with Sac Fly RBI. 1-1
Run down goes well for the Astros
For once…
Hanson was unaware of the fact that there was supposed to be a squeeze play.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Baseball Prospectus mention on the air
Talking about how muddy the NL Central is projected to be by PECOTA, with only one team projected above .500 (St. Louis).
Melky Cabrera gets to third on Glaus double to LF corner. Radio guys are praising Carlos Lee’s defensive ability.
Majewski is pitching for Stros by the way.
5-3 lead for Braves now, with Corcoran pitching for Astros. Glaus with RBI. And he keeps giving up singles.
Not looking too good for either Majewski or Corcoran so far. Not that the sample size is even a fraction of being large enough to make a pronouncement about them, but they did need to make a good impression in ST to overcome their iffy numbers.
It’s always hard to get excited about minor league pitchers coming off seasons below 2.00 K/BB.
You may not have noticed, but I’m not really a big fan of ball-in-play groundball pitchers ;) Leaving that much more up to luck and defense always makes me nervous.
Don’t talk to Dave Duncan. :)
I like groundball pitchers a lot. However, I prefer GB pitchers who also can strike out a reasonable number of batters (e.g., Alberto Arias). I like the reduction in HRs which comes with the GB pitcher, and it allows teams to enhance their pitching by improving the infield defense. I don’t think Corcoran and Majewski will turn out to be much more than minor league depth. Corcoran seems to have a better chance of contributing at the major league level, given that he has pitched in the majors more recently and he pitched fairly well at Round Rock last year.
Yeah, I do think being able to get a lot of groundballs is an advantage, but I don’t like guys who rely on that and have bad K/BB ratios. Sampson is a good example… never been a big fan.
I always felt that Sampson’s low K rate would prevent him from becoming more than a No. 5 pitcher or a relief pitcher. However, Sampson’s K/BB rate wasn’t bad in AAA and his early seasons as a major leaguer because he walked so few batters. However, his walk rate has been rising in more recent years, causing a decline in his K/BB rate. Sampson is a guy who has to be precise in his control.
Towles hit by pitch. Before he was hit, radio guys talked about how he crowds the plate, and risks a HBP. Zumaya hit Towles with 98 mph heat when the Astros played the Tigers. Teams try to pitch on the outside part of the plate against Towles, which is why Towles crowds the plate.
Josh Banks is giving up runs now. Another pitcher who doesn’t have much chance at the ML roster. A walk and three singles led to 2 runs. 9-4 with 1 out.
Shelton with a single
Possible two out rally in effect now.

I thought they were saying Geary's name
But I had the volume down kind of low.

Game over...
Pitching was spotty in this game. But Villar and Englebrook are spotlighted by radio guys for their good performances. Lance Berkman is player of the game for the Astros, according to radio guys. They also say that Berkman has looked good playing defense at 1st, with no apparent effect from his knee.
