chris johnson

i was just wondering if anybody can tell me how things are looking for Chris Johnson this spring ive been looking at his number and they are fairly impressive but that doesnt really tell me if he is expected to start at 3rd base or not especially with pedro feliz in the mix....i dont know about youse guys but im sure getting tired of this revolving door at 3b im ready for a player to come in and solidify the position and i think chris johnson just might be the one so please let me know your opinions and thoughts thanks

Good Spring

There was a little discussion about this in the game thread on the front page. He’s having a solid spring although the sample size is small. He won’t make the opening day roster and will unlikely be called up before september unless Feliz gets sent to the DL. But he is showing some good signs and is doing better than i expected this spring and may perform well enough at RR this year that he will be given the spot next year.

Ditto. Chris Johnson has been hitting well, but you have to be wary of spring stats. The best thing is that he has shown good power this spring. IMO, Johnson needs to have a big year in AAA and show that he will hit HRs and hit with power. What he has done this spring is a hopeful sign that maybe he will do that.

I know its hard to really tell from spring training with the limited tv time and everything comes from announcers…but what about his defense. Before last year i had some doubts about his arm. He has a rather high error count which i think was predominantly of the throwing type.

hard to tell since the spring games aren’t televised, but my recollection is that Johnson has made a few misplays on defense (even though that’s hard to hold against him, since I think they may have been early in the spring). If Johnson can work on his defense in AAA, that can only help him get to the big leagues quicker.

From my recollection of last spring, he did really well, the at bats I did see he looked really good, patient and had a nice swing. His stats however last season say otherwise, so who knows hopefully he takes another step forward this season in AAA it sure would be nice to have 3B shored up cause their is not a lot of options coming up in the minors.

He also had some injury issues last year and missed significant time. So staying healthy and playing every day will be a key as well.

Yeah, there's already too many injuries...

and it’s only March. These guys better get in shape, or it’s gonna be a long year.

4 HRs now

This kid is making some noise. I still agree that he should start off in AAA particularly for his defense but wow he’s having a GREAT spring
