Myers

gives up a solo homer to McCann, but otherwise has a decent first two innings….3 K/1 BB, best ratio all spring so far I believe

sort of all over the place

6 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks through four…but also six strikeouts. First time he’s pitched four innings so far. The six K’s are promising

I missed his innings

but did I hear the radio guys right: Did Braves load the bases in two different innings off Myers?

Bases loaded. Feliz single, Manzella beats out a bunt, and Quintero with a ground single up the middle.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:17 PM CDT reply actions

Keppinger Ks, and Bourn hits a flare to LF which fall in, and Manzella and Feliz both score.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:21 PM CDT reply actions

finally Bourn gets a hit, and a clutch one at that.

I know its early, but

I’m really liking Manzella at shortstop.

by linkxmalon on Mar 14, 2010 1:21 PM CDT reply actions

why? it seems like he is having a pretty good spring.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

sorry...

I mis-read your comment…I thought you said you didn’t like Manzella at shortstop. I’m having some difficulty with the format of the TCB web site this morning and can’t read very clearly.

Its alright

I think Tommy’s gonna surprise a lot of people in the NL.

Had the same thing happen last night, so it’s not just you

He is gonna stink

Sorry guys, just have to be the negative Nancy here.

A Comment from the Braves' blog:

I’ll be at Osceola stadium today too. Awesome stadium, great food. Way better than Disney.

Quintero has scored 3 runs combined today and yesterday

Both of yesterday’s resulted directly or indirectly from aggressive baserunning on Q’s part. I missed how he got to third today.

Astros lead 7-2 over the Braves

after Hunter Pence hits a 2-run homerun.

Pence picks it up.

2 run HR for Hunter Pence! Then Carlos Lee rips the cover off the ball for a no doubter HR.

Radio guys say that news is very good this morning on Berkman. He was working out already. They said Berkman said he felt good and he scoffed at the idea that he would be out for more than two weeks.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:30 PM CDT reply actions

Is Kawakami still in?

by linkxmalon on Mar 14, 2010 1:31 PM CDT up reply actions

No. He was taken out after the Matsui RBI, I think. I didn’t pick up who replaced him.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks. I’m cooped inside right now…folding clothes facepalm I’m gonna try to catch the last few innings on my truck’s radio later on.

8-4 Astros now, after McCann with 2 run HR. Byrdak pitching, but not very well. He gives up a single that Bourn can’t get to….first three batter reach.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:39 PM CDT reply actions

Infante doubles now…Byrdak can’t get an out.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Byrdak’s been really bad so far this spring…maybe Wesley will have to become the “leftie specialist” (or maybe we should do away with that pitching spot and go with—relatively—the best reliever available)

by linkxmalon on Mar 14, 2010 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions

McCann homerun #2 in the game

Byrdak having a bad outing – first three batters reached – make that four straight batters reached

As I recall he had a bad outing last week too.

Byrdak walks the bases loaded with 1 out.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:44 PM CDT reply actions

Get Byrdak out of there please...

I’d even put Borkowski or Villareal in for heaven’s-sake

by linkxmalon on Mar 14, 2010 1:46 PM CDT up reply actions

8-5 now.

Bourn catches flyball, and runner scores from 3d base. Apparently a fairly good catch.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:47 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn stalled a big Braves scoring chance

with a supposedely great running catch in center

Braves scored one
Then Byrdak hit a batter to load the bases again

Michael Bourn makes a big diving catch to save the inning. Crowd giving standing ovation.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:49 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn does it again!

Great diving catch ends the inning with the bases loaded

Manzella with a looping base hit over 2d. He is 8 for 21 so far this spring.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 1:54 PM CDT reply actions

Corcoran in the game now, and with 1 out he gave up a hit to Duncan. Now struggling with control.

by clack on Mar 14, 2010 2:05 PM CDT reply actions

Bases loaded after three consecutive hits.

Astros load the bases this time. Johnson, Maysonet, and Santangelo with hits.

Drew Mier to hit.

This time Astros load the bases

Seventh inning

Drew Meyer (?) batting

Abad pitching for Astros. Gives up lead off hit.

after giving up 2 hits, Abad gets out of the inning with a flyball.

Astros WIN 8-5

A lot of Spring training elements in this game – at least Astros came out on top.

Carlos Lee defensive about his weight

Carlos Lee interviewed after the game. All going along swimingly until the announcer asked how Carlos’ weigh-in went this morning.

Carlos changed tone. He said he doesn’t care about weight – nobody cares about his weight as long as he’s getting his hits.

That was the last question of the interview.

by Joe in Birmingham on Mar 14, 2010 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

I was about to comment on that interview. Carlos was asked whether he had a weight target when he weighed in, and he didn’t answer the question, going into his, “I don’t care about my weight. Nobody cares how much I weight as long as I drive in runs.”

Even giving him the benefit of the doubt that he was perhaps trying to express a little humor in the answer (hard to tell when you just hear it on the radio), I doubt that the Astros wanted him to give an answer like that.

Astros Win, and Lopez pitches the 9th inning….Milo and radio guy liked Lopez’s stuff today.

watching the Cubs' spring game on WGN...

They talked about Berkman undergoing surgery, and the possibility of Geoff Blum replacing him. Brenley said the Cubs are more afraid of Blum than Berkman. LOL.
