Around SBN: The Gift Of The 2003 Tigers

The world of baseball coverage is changing. Newspapers are doing less and less due to budgetary constraints. Teams like the Nationals don't even have anyone covering Spring Training right now. So, this intrepid former reporter is raising money to go cover his team. I'd have asked you guys for the same thing, but was afraid I'd only get 25 cents.

When I saw this post, my first inclination was to laugh and perhaps feel sorry for the reporter who has to stoop to asking for donations. But after reading the link, it is a bit more interesting than it seemed on the surface. He offers “premium service” emailed to contributors at different monetary levels:

$20 — Exclusive daily audio file of Jim Riggleman’s morning or postgame media session.

$40 — Exclusive daily audio file of Jim Riggleman’s morning or postgame media session, plus another daily audio file of an interview with a Nats player, coach or front-office member.

$60 — Exclusive daily audio file of Jim Riggleman’s morning or postgame media session; plus another daily audio file of an interview with a Nats player, coach or front-office member; plus the opportunity to submit a question to be asked of Riggleman or a prominent player during a spring training interview.

I’m not convinced that he will get enough donors to justify the time and cost of providing those additional services. But those are legitimate upgrades in terms of normal media information for people who are hard core fans.
