Quick question about Meyers, Lyon and Lindstrom
I dont remember it being discussed very much on here yet. What would you guys think about moving Meyers to the closer role if Lyon and Lindstrom completely flop? He has experience back there and might not be a bad stop gap. And while it shutters me to think it, we do have Moehler who could be a serivcable 5th from time to time. Now something like this would worry me greatly because I think we all agree that Norris and Paulino are unproven and will more than likely need to skip a few starts in order to maintain a healthy full season. And that is where Moehler would be perfect for the long reliever/spot starter role. But you cant predict the future. All you can do is hope for the best while preparing for the worst. So, what do you think about a situation like that?

Sure, it’s possible. But the Astros paid quite a bit for Lyon, and he is signed to a 3 year contract, so I don’t see the Astros giving up on him very quickly. If Lindstrom doesn’t work out, I think the Astros would continue with Lyon in the 9th inning role for quite a while, even if he struggles. In other words, I think Lindstrom and Lyon would have to be absolute disasters for the Astros to move them out of the late inning roles. If that happened, I think Arias and Gervacio should be given a chance in the late innings. If Myers turns out to have injury problems which prevent him from pitching multiple innings, then I suppose all bets are off on how the rotation and bullpen could be changed up.
I much rather have
a SP who can put up 200 innings than another closer that might be just okay. Let Lyon and Lindstrom work through their issues.
