Astros Weekly Winter Leagues Recap

The Winter League Recap returns after a week off and this will be the first one without any AFL participants since that league has been over for over two weeks.  But, don't worry!  Barring something ridiculous happening, I'll have time to put together an AFL Season Review for you guys later in the week.

But, as I typically did with the daily reviews from durring the season, I want to raise a question for discussion.  How much weight do you put on off-season league statistics?  Obviously they don't mean as much as the in-season stats, since the sample sizea are so much smaller and theres really real way to assess the true competition level since they face participants from so many different levels.  But, what makes me bring this up?  Look at what Jose Altuve did the past two weeks and over the entire off-season season(?).  He has an .802 OPS and compare that to the other guys who have played levels above him; Edwin Bellorin (.523 OPS), Federico Hernandez (.483 OPS), Drew Locke (.675 OPS), Ozzie Navarro (.586 OPS), Wladimir Sutil (.641 OPS), Freddy Parejo (.661 OPS).  Sure, none of them besides Locke are actually known as offensive threats, but look at those numbers.  He out performs every one by at least 100 points and plays just as a challenging defensive position as Ozzie.  Ozzie also has a similar sample size and has experience at the major league level.
