Astros close to re-signing Geoff Blum?
I've seen this blurb a couple of different places. I thought they said pretty directly that he wouldn't be back? Im not against bringing him back; he's cheap, versatile, and a good bench player. I just thought they had moved on and hope this move doesn't preclude any other moves to bring in a good SS/IF.
I can see the front office taking the stance of "we were really good in the 2nd half, let's just bring everybody back and hope for the same". I really hope that's not the case. What do you guys think?

At the time that the Astros declined his option, Wade said he wasn’t opposed to talking about signing him for a lessor amount. However, I assumed he wouldn’t be back because Blum gave his good byes. I like Blum as a bench guy, but I will be disappointed if he is re-signed, because I think the Astros need to move on to younger players.
I think it depends on what the other options are. Of course I’d rather have Juan Uribe or Bill Hall, but if it’s between Geoff Blum and Ozzie Navarro, give me Blum. I think a team needs a real veteran presence, even during a rebuilding period.

Seeing a report now that the Diamondbacks are close to signing him
If so, good luck to Blum. He wasn’t my favorite player but he seems to be a really good guy who liked playing with the Stros.

NOOOOOOO
Look, I like Blum as a member of some past teams that had some good runs. But he’s 37, batted 267 with 2 hr last year and an OPS under .700. Overall he’s a replacement level player who made 1.5 mill. I think we can get the same for less $ and get younger in the process. We already have other veterans who are good clubhouse guys so Blum’s value there is not so needed…
Id pass
He has never been the best player, and I think we can get a decent player even a vet at the same price that can deliver better the Blum can.
