Oswalt's new offseason program

Roy Oswalt (back) is confident that a new offseason work regimen has properly prepared him for the upcoming season.

Oswalt made 30 starts for a sixth straight season in '09, but was plagued by back problems throughout, in part due to a bulging disk that causes hip pain and numbness in his hand. A specialist recommended that the 32-year-old right-hander cut back on his running and do more core-strengthening exercises to get prepared for 2010. "I think people read into it a little too much it," said Oswalt. "I'll be ready when it gets time to go. This new workout stuff should help a lot." Oswalt was 8-6 with a 4.12 ERA last season. I would think that strengthening his core will help him pitch better too on top of helping his back.
