apparently Wade had responded to Cooper’s comment by saying there would be no surprises. So I suppose Wade agrees with you that those three guys are not surprise call ups. I tend to agree with your reaction too.

JD suggested during the game....

that Johnson and Manzella are probably furiously driving to Houston and listening to the game, hoping that it goes into extra innings, so that they can arrive in time with the game still in progress.

Glass half-full

Well at least C.Johnson got the call….I could care less about manzella….and whether he is a vacuum glove does not entice me at all…if he can’t hit ’ he’s an auto-out like everitt was

And Johnson is a third baseman

who doesn’t hit for average and doesn’t walk. I’d put more money on Manzella than Johnson to be on the club in two years.

And Everett was awesome.

Your friendly neighborhood Dream Shake mod.

His power isn’t that impressive either and his defense isn’t great either. I have doubts about his arm. He’s thrown a good bit of errors over the past few years…while he did improve that this year a good bit. But, he won’t provide much more offensively i don’t think. His OPS is .784 while Manzella is at .756. I’d take a much better glove with a slightly less offensive presence. This looks even better when you factor in the offensive and defensive increase by moving tejada to 3rd. (given tejada take a big pay cut). Can you imagine how much better our pitchers would look with the left side of our infield getting better?

I have been pessimistic about Chris Johnson as a future ML third baseman, given his overall offensive numbers in AAA. But he has been hitting a lot better in the past month, with a spike in his slugging. I suspect that this recent performance tipped the decision toward calling up Johnson. Realistically this may just be a sporadic hot streak. But the possibility exists that Johnson is moving to a higher level of performance. Since the minor league cupboard is bare at 3d base, it’s worth a call up to let the major league coaches evaluate him.

True.

What can it hurt? I am not optimistic about Johnson, but it’s not like he’s competing with A-Rod. We’re (mostly) playing Geoff Blum at 3B, and it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Johnson could be better for less money.
