One of the starters going tonight is a Hall of Famer...one is not. A prize to those who can figure out who is who.

Also, I wanted to apologize for the lack of posting going on the past few days...life for DQ and myself has been pretty hectic, and making posts hasn't really been an option. Fear not though, regular posts should be happening sooner rather than later. Until then, enjoy the season's last few series.

Martinez may the Hall of Famer, but Moehler makes more money this year.

Gotta like Charley Manuel’s sac bunt strategy. In the first inning no less. Reminds me of a certain former Astros’ manager.

by clack on Sep 30, 2009 6:27 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

groundout gets the run in….so the sac bunt did help tie the game up. But it’s still a bad move in the 1st inning, particularly with the array of good hitters behind Rollins.

J.R. Towles with a long, long double...

Looked like a HR, but not ruled that way.

Hard to tell if it’s a HR on the replay; depends on the groundrules.

Now replay shows it to be a HR.

2-1 after Towles' late ruled HR....

Dave Clark has made a special effort to work on Towles’ hitting since he became manager. He thinks it’s a matter of confidence.

It looks like Clark is getting some results.

Wow!!! Towles with 2d HR of game....

No doubter….no need for replay. 3-1 Astros.

It’s exciting to think that Towles may be coming alive. The Astros could use his bat.

If Dave Clark improved Towles batting

that’s a few beanies in the Clark for Manager cup

or hitting coach job

I have to go run some errands. Hopefully this growing threat by the Phils (runner on 2d no outs) won’t come to fruition.

Ugh - With Phillies on first and third

batter hit the ball to Moehler.

Moehler looked at the runner at third; turned and threw to second to start the double play . Unfortunately , he threw behind Matsui and the ball careemed into center field. Bourn wasn’t in position and had to run up to the ball.

Tie game – no outs

On replay it looked like Tejada and Matsui crossed up (Mainly Tejada)

Matsui was about six feet behind seond (and running past second)

Tejada was on line to cross second (and receive the throw) but for some reason stopped about 8 to10 feet before reaching second .

The Phillies broadcasters say that Hunter Pence...

looks like a preying mantis.

Did I hear correctly?

Jim DeShaies will not broadcast Saturday and Sunday’s games?

Alyson Footer explains

Jim Deshaies will not be with the team this weekend in New York, so we thought we’d get the word out now rather than wait for the massive city-wide panic sure to set it when fans tune in to Astros game this weekend and don’t see their lovable TV analyst.

Deshaies will be attending his brother Patrick’s wedding this weekend, and because J.D. is actually in the wedding, he will have to be away from the Astros for all three games as they wrap up the 2009 season at brand new Citi Field.

Steve Sparks, the former knuckleball pitcher who you’ve seen quite a bit as an analyst on the pre- and postgame shows on FS Houston the last few years, will fill in for J.D. this weekend.

Bad Night for the Atlanta Braves

If Phillies win or Braves lose , Phillies win NL East

Phillies lead 10-3
Braves trail 5-2 in the ninth

Meanwhile the Colorado Rockies who lead the Braves in the Wild Card race are leading 5-2 in the fourth
