Solo HR by Hunter Pence.

Very, very high HR off the facade above the conoco pumps.

I think Quintero was hit by a pitch....long injury time out.....

I think he is OK. Looked like swelling around his wrist. Quintero has taken a beating this year in the field of play.

nice DP by Matsui. He takes grounder near base path and tags runner between 1st and 2d and then throws on to 1st.

Pragmatic question

Why wasn’t Burt Hooton (or Round Rocks Manager) brought to Houston after RR season was over? They know the strengths, tendences and peronalities of the young pitchers (and regulars) and would be good advisers to Dave Clark and Dewey Robinson, and maybe a source of comfort to the former Express players.

The Round Rock manager has been in the Astros’ dugout. In fact, I think he was the 1st base coach yesterday because Cruz was ill.

oh - that's good

Astros management thinking

I don't know how long Bombard (RR manager) has been with the team....

not sure if he has been with them ever since the end of Express season or not. but the Cruz illness and Bombard taking his place was the first opportunity for the broadcast to show him in the dugout.

Cruz could of also been at an interview =X

supposedly he phoned in with the flu and was told to stay home. but I saw his quotes in the paper the other day where he expressed some concern about keeping his job.

That’s quite bizarre. Lehr and the Astros set a record in that 5 solo HR game….first pitcher to win a game after giving up 5 HRs.

Makes me think of Looper. He leads the league in giving up HRs and is up there in run support. Howard (and Bako) hit one off of him tonight. His career versus line is something like 5 HRs in 9 ABs.

Paulino settling in

Maybe he’s getting used to the umpires strike zone

I like this quote from Letroy Hawkins....

In a McTaggert article, Hawkins says he would like to return to the Astros. He says:

“I’ll just sit and wait,” he said. “I’m not in a hurry, and they’re probably not in a hurry, either. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be four hours away from here in Prosper, Texas. Chilling.”

Joey Votto

is either a very good hitter ; or is on some kind of hot streak

Votto has quickly become a certified Astros killer. His numbers this year vs. the Astros:

.320, .382, .540, .922

He is hitting on hot streak in Sept. with a .368 BA and a 1.160 OPS. But he has hit over .300 in every month except August.

Maysonet with a line drive single (JD: “is he still on the team?”) and he is driven in on a Tejada single. 8-4.

ASTROS LOST 10-4

Another negative outlier game.

This is beyond ridiculous.. I can’t remember an Astros team this totally out of control.

(P.S. – Buddy Guy put on a first-rate concert here in Birmingham tonight)

Koby Clemens

Astros assistant general manager Ricky Bennett acknowledged the team will have a tough decision to make by Nov. 20 on whether to put [Koby] Clemens on the 40-man major league roster to protect him from the winter meeting draft.

Oh... scary

They’d better protect him, wouldn’t want another Johan Santana.
