I was watching reruns of that at a friends' place a few nights ago.
One episode was about a man who had been sentenced to exile on a deserted planet. The space captain in charge of bringing him supplies gives him a robot woman for company. The exile and the robot fall in love. The captain returns one day to bring the exile home, but they must leave immediately and they don’t have room for the robot. The exile argues that it’s as real as a person, and they can’t just leave her there. The captain takes out his gun and shoots the robot, revealing a head full of wires and circuits. The exile begrudgingly accepts the captain’s judgment, and returns home.
Metaphor for fans’ relationship with the Astros? I think so.

Why do they...
Show the avg., HR, and RBI’s for Bourn?
Why not instead show OBP, Runs, and Stolen Bases?

old-fashionedness
I read that some fans put up a scoreboard with more advanced stuff recently.

I'd think
You’d want to promote your players.
.289 avg, 3 HR and 35 RBI look un-impressive.

you'd think
but, then again, you’d think the Astros would be interested in spending money wisely. And yet here we all are.

He’s going to be coming back from wrist surgery. He’s not all that young. He does play a lot of positions, but none really well. And you guys are going younger too, right?
true
but the Astros’ only 3b prospect is Chris Johnson, and I don’t think he’s going to be any good. They might have to play a guy like Derosa or Blum.
Personally, I’d rather see the Astros try to play Towles or Clemens (should he get called up next year) at third next season.
Your friendly neighborhood Dream Shake mod.
Blum would probably be signed over Derosa
They’re telling us they are going younger, when really they mean they’re going cheaper.

Has Towles played any 3rd?
I know Clemens was at catcher then 3rd then I think left this year. I’m not sold on him yet though. Hes 22 and still playing a A ball where he finally put up good numbers.
I don't think so
but there were all those articles about playing him at 2nd, and if anybody thinks he has the range for 2nd, he has the range for 3rd, and if he has the arm for catcher, he has the arm for 3rd, as well.
I like Clemens because he actually takes the occasional walk. His BB rate is only around 9% across his career, but that’s a hell of a lot better than Johnson. Same goes for Towles. If there’s one stat that translates almost perfectly from the minors to the majors, it’s BB%.
The problem with Johnson is that he strikes out way too much (major, major red flag) and doesn’t hit for even passable average or walk more than 5% of the time. That just seems like a recipe for failure, to me. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think players like that can ever make up enough with power to succeed.

On the topic of 2nd base
I’m not sure how much truth there is to Justice’s note about possibly shipping Kaz back to Japan. I assume in such a case, Maysonet would become our starter but in the long term I know that he is considered basically a bench guy. Do we have a 2B of the future in the minors somewhere?
nothing in the upper levels
in the lower levels….
Jose Altuve, maybe?

Hes having surgery in the off season?
Supposedly we’re going to get younger but I’m not sold on Chris Johnson at 3rd base. I’d like Dero as insurance for Johnson not to mention he can play all the outfield positions as well as 1st and 2nd. I’d rather him on the club than Jason Michaels or Geoff Blum.
I would be fine with Derosa, but I don’t think the Astros will spend that much money on 3d base…unless it is to bring Tejada back. My best suggestion was Russ Branyan, but Seattle has an advantage in re-signing him. Otherwise, rather than going with Chris Johnson, I would prefer a `AAAA 3d baseman—-that’s essentially what McGehee was for the Brewers. Ol Pete made a suggestion of a 27 year old 3d baseman in the Brewers system, and his stats looked more appealing than Chris Johnson. I am intrigued by the idea of Koby Clemens, but I wish the Astros had moved him up to AA toward the end of the season. Maybe Koby could be jumped to AAA and play a variety of positions, so that he is available to move up to the majors during the season. Unlikely…but I can hope for it.
Lots of people keep saying McGehee is going to fade and I think his last month was the best. They also used to say he could only hit fastballs and he has gotten a lot of big hits off of other pitches. Supposedly, even though he’s played really good defense, he’s been hampered by tendinitis in his knee and is usually better.
Heether can also play SS and 2B (i’m pretty sure). They also have a 2B who will go to minor league FA after this year who has put up pretty good numbers in his career, Iribarren.

JD pointed out...
That Bazardo was working all middle away, nothing inside… well, when you’re that predictable batters can look out there and throw the head out.
I have not been impressed with Yorman at all so far. Has anyone watched him pitch at Round Rock? Was his approach better and his stuff and control more consistent? His ERA there suggests it was but I never watched him pitch.
In other words, could we expect him to ever settle in and smooth things out.
I was skeptical of Bazardo when he pitched at Round Rock. He had a low K rate and a BABIP which appeared to be very lucky. His FIP was more than 1 run higher than his ERA at RR. At the major league level, Bazardo’s FIP is more than 2 runs lower than his ERA, and his BABIP is very high, all of which suggests that he is better than his major league results. For some reason, Bazardo’s groundball rate is much lower at the ML level, which might indicate he has overthrown or had a mechanical foul up, or maybe it’s just a small sample size. If you look just at FIP, which eliminates some of the luck issues, Bazardo is 4.56 at Round Rock and 5.60 at the ML level; and a 1 run difference between AAA and the majors doesn’t seem all that unusual. So, yes, I think Bazardo’s ERA at Round Rock is misleading; on the other hand, he may be a little better than what he has shown at the major league level so far. I wouldn’t count on him for much more than depth.
this is the point where Wesley stops pitching.
Oh, what’s that? Coop was fired? Kick ass.
