this is awesome

very easy to understand. it’s intuitive so stat and non stat inclined people alike can decipher the strong and weak suits of various players

I think it probably needs to be tweaked

so that the values are determined by percentile, rather than by “percent of leader.”

yeaaaa that would be nice

but still a supremely nice way of looking at things.

Kind of a video game presentation

It doesn’t give you a feel for the specifics, but it’s a nice way of giving an overview of a player.

I like it as a means of presentation...

but my initial complaint is the way that a player who fields multiple positions can arrive at more 100% for defense (as shown by Zobrist example). That isn’t intuitive to me.

I'm fairly sure

it’s a result of overall UZR being higher than whatever the leader is at his “main” position.

Not much information on how Zobrist is 117% on fielding. The article simply says:

several positions played at a high quality gave us this wonky result.

Based on the initial description of the fielding component for all of the graphs, it seems like no one should have higher than 100% in fielding. For multiple position players, I would have used a weighted average of percentages for each position.

Are you sure..?

He’s not just the best fielder in the entire history of baseball?
