I figured Manzella might get start in the Sunday game vs. Pirates. guess not.
Texans look bad in early going vs. Jets, by the way.

Chris Johnson unable to come down with McCutcheon’s liner, and it turns into a double.

Paulino gets a K for out no. 2. If he gets the next batter, he can get out of this inning with only 1 run allowed.
Paulino always seems to start games slowly in the 1st innings.

Pittsburgh not on TV on a Pittsburgh station
That’s what happens when the Pirates are in last place on a terrible losing streak and the Steelers play the first game of the football season.

Tejada grounds out to the pitcher

it's interesting how that one play by Quintero
basically ruins a whole inning for hte Astros’ offense. It’s like saying, “we are going to play only 8 innings against the Pirates.”

Paulino with another good inning.
But Quintero gets thrown out at 2d, trying to stretch a single.

Maybe he can get out of it. Pirates’ hitters yelling at ump.

Maholm does this all the time to Astros' hitters.
He’s mowing them down.

Thats because Paulino = Lose
And it’s not always his fault, but it seems to be true.

Being 2 hit by the Pirates
Astros only allowing 1 run so far, yet we’re losing! Could use a little OBP.

Houston Texans playing poorly says John McClain
He writes:
If I had to do halftime grades, I’d give F-minuses all around.
I don’t think the Texans could play any worse if they tried to.

After trying to bunt twice (with Michaels on 1st), Bourn K’s looking.
I didn’t like the sac bunt call in that situation.

Michael Bourn should never sacrifice bunt
(maybe not never but I’m hard-pressed to think of a situation where his sacrficie bunt makes sense)

Well, i think, with Bourn...
If he can lay it down right, he may be able to turn the sac in to a hit.
by entropic soul on Sep 13, 2009 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
my thinking is that it is too early to play for a tie game...
plus Bourn isn’t a bad hitter with RISP (normally).

Third inning Astros have stranded a runner at third
( I think Carlos Lee left a runner there twice)
Either that’s terrible; or sooner or later the Astros will break out
(Can I blame the attempted sacrfice?)

TV Guys don't know
Best I can figure is the pitcher said something to Tejada as Tejada jogged toward first on the popout; Tejada yelled back at him; then Lee and others came out of the dugout.
That’s not a lot , but that’s l all I got

Capps was yelling angrily at Tejada...
JD said Capps had nothing to yell about, other than frustration over giving up a HR to Berkman. Tejada pointed a finger at Capps and said “F-you” it appeared, and was thrown out. Capps continued to show anger at Astros’ bench after he got the last out and was yelling and stuff with his teammates about it.

Did Berkman take his time running out the HR?
by ol Pete on Sep 13, 2009 7:08 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not that I noticed....
Berkman didn’t know if it was a HR or not and appeared to be running normally to get his double. After he stopped at 2d base, the umpires changed their ruling and said it was a HR, and so a couple of minutes later he got to trot the rest of the way around the bases. A tell-tale sign that it was a HR is that McCutcheon was lackadaisical going for the ball when it bounced back on the field, because he knew it was a HR.
Maybe Capps didn’t like the fact that Tejada wasn’t running hard on a pop-up, but that’s not something he should be concerned about.
by clack on Sep 13, 2009 8:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
OK....here's the issue. Capps believed that Tejada was stealing signs.
Capps saw Tejada looking at first base coach Jose Cruz, Jr. and believes that Cruz and Tejada had worked out a system for stealing signs. Tejada says it’s not true and is a crazy allegation. Tejada said that Capps can say whatever he wants to him, but he is upset when Capps “disrespects” a team coach, Cruz.
What is ironic about this to me is the fact that “stealing signs” isn’t illegal, and a runner on second base, for example, is free to steal signs (if they can figure out how do it) and give signals to the batter. That’s why the pitcher and catcher frequently meet at the mound after a runner gets to 2d base—-in order to change the signs.
by clack on Sep 13, 2009 9:09 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
that is a pretty silly thing to complain about if you ask me
The real issue is probably a frustrated team. They really weren’t all that bad earlier in the season but players have been sent out and brought in and now they’ve been losing a lot. When they were chippy with the Brewers they had lost something like 17 games in a row to them.
