Every time I see Garland's name I have flashbacks to the 2005 World Series, and then I get really, really angry. Somehow Garland's fall to mediocrity doesn't alleviate the anger all that well.

Norris’ slump of late: excessive workload OR batters / scouts catch up with Norris?

by clack on Aug 29, 2009 7:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Workload

He’s starting to leave balls up in the zone according to some, which to me would indicate he’s tiring, possibly changing his release point and mechanics.

Billy Wagner

I was thinking about this before the game. Billy Wagner recently traded to the Red Sox wants to be a closer next season, something he’s unlikely to do in Boston. I wonder if there’s a possibility the Astros attempt to sign him since Valverde will be a free agent at the end of the season. Granted I know he didn’t leave the organization with on the best of terms, but he might be an option, a cheaper one at that.

Norris has a good pick off move.

he has surprised a lot of batters in his ML games, but didn’t quite get the outs. This time he did. If he could have that kind of accuracy (throw was around Berkman ankles, so that he could easily put the glove on Upton) all the time, he won’t have anyone running on him.

Wild Pitch on an Intentional Base on Balls.....

Maybe that will teach Cooper about giving away too many IBBs.

I thought about Zachary Levine watching Round Rock games...

when I read the account of the Express’ Friday night game in the Austin newspaper. Levine had labeled a previous Express game as the worst display he had seen at any level of baseball. Nashville scored 9 runs against the Express on Friday, and only 1 run was earned. Matt Kata booted a groundball. With 2 runners on base, Jason Smith and Bogusevic let a routine pop up fall between them for a hit. (no error on that play apparently) 3 more errors on the outfielders. The Austin paper’s article said that it looked like a team which has given up and is ready to go home. So I wonder how Levine will feel about that game…

Reynolds 2 run HR....

Mark Reynolds is a true Astros-killer. Look up his numbers if you don’t believe me.

He's 1 or 2 behind you know who

if he beats him it means less face time and fewer highlights – I can only take so much

Another mediocre outing by Gallardo. Kevin Hart, who came over in the Cubs trade hanging pretty tough.

Cooper may be F-ing up the pitching rotation....

Felipe Paulino is scheduled to start tomorrow, but Cooper brings him in to mop up this game. That means Wandy’s start will have to be moved up. I can see potential problems on multiple levels.

by clack on Aug 29, 2009 8:54 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

that is what they said on the radio. I don’t think the Astros have anybody else available.

Brown repeated what they think the new rotation will be…Wandy tomorrow, Oswalt Monday, Moehler Tuesday, and if Paulino doesn’t pitch much more in this game, he might get Wed’s start, or else Bazardo gets the Wed. start, it’s “to be determined.”

I get the feeling that Cooper isn’t very happy with Bazardo…so who knows if he gets another start.

line drive off Paulino's knee or leg...

he is hurt. Keppinger tried to get the out, but was late on the throw.

by clack on Aug 29, 2009 9:09 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

trainer comes out, but Paulino walks it off. However, watch out for any control problems which might indicate a problem.

Keppinger almost made another great play

Ball richocheted off Paulino’s leg. Keppinger while in run grabs ball with bare hand and throws hard to Berkman, but runner just beat the throw.

bases loaded...no outs...

error on Keppinger as he pulls matsui off the bag with a bad throw. Bad luck for Paulino…and he leaves the game. Paulino had one base runner get on base with a ball off his leg and another get on base when he had to duck a ball headed for his face, and now an error.

by clack on Aug 29, 2009 9:16 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Oh no

with men on first and second, Mark Reynolds grounded to Keppnger in front of Tejada,
Keppinger threw to Matusi to start a double play.

but the throw was too hard and off target.
Matsui had to leave the base to catch it.

Everybody safe

Byrdak gives up 3 run double.

Ugly play, with Lee batting the ball around in the LF corner. Paulino’s ERA will balloon to the stratosphere, even though he didn’t do much that was bad.

JD and Brown talking about the Cubs turning into the 69 Mets and catching the Cardinals.

Perish the thought.

Fantastic catch by Bourn...saved a double or triple.

I was afraid Bourn would hurt himself, because he was going full speed toward the wall and caught the ball on the run only a few feet from the wall. He slammed into wall, but used his hands as shock absorber.
