ground out scores runner 2-0.
DP attempt failed because the runner is fast. Next batter is making his ML debut and grounds into DP started by Berkman.
He's from Conroe (or Montgomery)

D'backs claimed fan interference
Angel Hernandez said no fan interfenrce.
The bad part of that is that means Angel Hernandez umpires home plate on Sunday.

Thank you for the guy sitting behind
The guy in the blue shirt and the guy reaching over with his hat. He was pulling the guy with the hat back to make sure he didn’t touch it.

Kaz is on fire.
He doubles off the scoreboard with a line drive, and then comes into 2d base on a good gamble.

Just checked out Red Reporter to see if fans are bashing Dusty Baker
since Piirates lead that game 3-0 early.
Today they are trashing the owner (or majority owner) for his incompetent meddling.
If Reds lose today, they fall into last place in the NL Central.

Supposedly the Reds’ owner ordered the trade for Rolen. That probably was a bad idea for a team like the Reds.
amd mastermind the Griffey trade
and the Adam Dunn trade
and maybe pushed for Dusty Baker

From Cincinnati Enquirer
The Rolen trade is Castellini’s latest attempt to change things with one move. It’s along the lines of the hiring of Dusty Baker, the signing of Francisco Cordero, the hiring of Walt Jocketty, the firing of Wayne Krivisky and the trading of Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn.
Castellini was behind all those moves, or at least had the final word.

doesn't ever owner have final word?
by Timothy De Block on Aug 22, 2009 7:00 PM CDT up reply actions
When I read it , the impression I got was that
He didn’t more than approve the transaction; that he made the final decision between various people.

some of those moves arguably weren't terrible.
If you don’t think you can afford to re-sign Dunn, then trading him to D-Backs and getting something in return could make sense. And, why not trade Griffey? What could Griffey offer a team like the Reds at this stage of his career.
I see nothing wrong with any of them
but the some of the Reds fans so. — with the trades and with his hamstringing the GM

Byrdak is going into his 3d inning. Since Valverde is unavailable, I assume Hawkins will pitch the 9th.
Bird man out.
Byrdak gets an out in the 8th, and Cooper decides to remove him. JD had said he was hoping Cooper would go “old school,” and let Byrdak try to finish the game off. That would be highly unlikely, but I might have kept him in for this inning…he has been effective so far.
K’s Reynolds. I think Gervacio can be highly effective the first time RHers see him.
Now he is taken out.
Relief pitcher roulette again. Fulchino to come in the game.
why wouldn’t you just bring in Fulchino to begin with? am I missing something.

I agree on both accounts
But I’m assuming Cooper had it in his head Fulchino was finishing this inning regardless.
by Timothy De Block on Aug 22, 2009 8:33 PM CDT up reply actions
Since the next batter is also a RHer, this is a very odd move. I suppose it’s another “gut call” by Cooper.
oh, he was a LHB....
Gervacio hasn’t been effective against lefties in the minors. I suppose that is why he prefers Fulchino, even though he is also a righthand pitcher.
2-run lead
You could just let him go at it and at least see what happens.

bloop single for Lee...
Parra plays very deep for Carlos Lee and he can’t seem to make up the ground for even medium CF balls.
With 1 out, Montero singles in the 9th.
it was up the middle, and a shortstop with better range probably gets that ball. It was just beyond Tejada’s glove.
ASTROS WIN 4-2
fourth straight win

Astros creeping up on Cubs' spot.... maybe.
In one of the blogs at BBTF, Cubs’ fans were hoping that the new management blows the team up and starts over. They were talking about what they can get in trade for guys like Marmol, Lee, Fukudome, and Theriot. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Cubs blown up.
If Astros win and Cubs lose on Sunday

In his post game interview LaTroy reminded us how poorly he pitchedi n New York. It’s hard to figure out how he could have been so bad there and so good for the Astros .
