I notice Carl Everett is on the same Newark Bears independent league team with Benitez. Everett’s batting average is around .325 and his OPS is well over .900, for what it’s worth.
Benitez’s K rate and ERA (2.86) are good, but it’s anyone’s guess as to the competition. Some other well known pitchers on the Newark Bears: Scott Williamson (2.45 ERA) and Keith Foulke (5.02 ERA).
