I tune in with Michael Bourn batting (he reaches on a muffed play)
and I hear a long loud rumble of thunder. It must be storming in Houston.

yes...that's what I hear.
we could use some of the rain in Austin…but it’s not forecasted to come this far.
Which city is better
Houston or Austin?
by Timothy De Block on Aug 21, 2009 7:22 PM CDT up reply actions
ha!
I’ve lived both places. No comparison in my mind…I’ve always liked living in Austin. But I like some things about Houston, too.
I've heard
some good things about Austin. Houston not so much, but I’ve only talked to one person and he lives in Ft. Worth.
I’m looking at relocating to that area sometime next decade, which is why i’m asking.

ah ha.
As for Houston….it’s a mixed bag. It’s too sprawling and too much traffic. A flat, humid landscape. But it is a big city, and it has all the things that you can like about a big city. It’s diverse and bustling. Dallas is a big city too, but I prefer the feel of Houston.
Austin is a beautiful city in the hill country. The biggest problem is that it is growing too big, and it may lose it’s character.
I’ve never cared for the big city life, I think I could handle Houston though especially if I have season tickets =P
Austin sounds more up my alley, but it’d probably be determined more on finding a job in either place.

His wife didn’t know and neither did his office, or anyone else in South Carolina for that matter.

I know (It was in the papers here)
I was just kidding around
On a more serious matter – I also read South Carolina has the worst unempolyment rate of any state (except maybe Michigan)> Why is that?

I can't say for certain
I’ve heard we’re pretty bad with the unemployment. We’re pretty low on the education totem poll, and high on the crime poll, so that might have something to do with it. My opinion is that a lot of people are still living in the 70’s and 80’s technology wise, and general laziness. A lot of people run to the unemployment line instead of the job line.

Petit’s stuff doesn’t seem imposing, but the Astros are having trouble with him. Maybe that bit of funk in his delivery is deceiving them.
Kaz Matusi
Browmnie says Matsui is 0 for16 since getting hit # 2000. Wasn’t he like 0 for 16 before getting that hit # 2000 (and a weak grounder it was too)

Reds Fans on Dusty Baker
I went to Reds Reporter for a quick check. Reds are losing to Pirates tonight; and are in damger of being passed by the Pirates in the standings. I wondered if the Reds fans supported Dusty Baker or wanted him fired. It didn’t take long to find this exchange:
I hate him so much. With Robert Novak dead, Dusty could well be in my top 10 "people I’d have a hard time not punching in the face" list.

I would go to church every sunday for the rest of this year if it meant the Reds going to the playoffs in 2010 and Dusty being fired at the end of this year. I’m not Christian nor kidding.

You'd think
That with the prospect of getting some memorabilia for a bat someone aware of what’s going on would jump in front of someone unaware or in danger of getting hit.

Those were some shocking stats both for this season and his career. If I saw correctly, 0-for-11 this season with 6 SOs and an AVG around .200 for his career. Yikes! Not clutch.

Uncanny
Tejada is tired. You can see it at the plate and in the field. It’s not like GIDPs are anythign new for him but his overall play is suffering and he looks lifeless out there.
That's the other thing
How come a manager allows a player to influence his decision on when he get’s a break?
Obviously Tejada needs to be sitting more, but anytime Cooper schedules a day off he allows Tejada to talk him out of it.

A manager's job
Is to put players into a position where they can succeed.
He also needs to be decisive, accountable and in charge. Three characteristics that Cooper does not have.
