2010
- Find another starter, and hope Bud Norris avoids injury.
- 3B and SS will be big holes. Resign Miggy too play 3rd and call up Manzella is one scenario, with free agency being another.
- Catcher will essentially be a place holder for Castro unless Castro himself proves out of spring training he can handle the job, and will need to produce (see JR Towles). Maybe resign Pudge for one more year.
- Bullpen will need to be addressed with several older pitchers that will be on the free agent market. Valverede probably gone, Brocail maybe be done, Hawkins and Byrdak are free agents. Wright, Fulchino, Arias, hopefully Sampson all look like holdovers.
- and finally manager.

Well
With the news that Drayton is looking to pair down payroll because of decreased attendance, I’m guessing the cap will be $90 million, give or take a few million. I went through and estimated payroll, keeping Tejada at 3B, Hawkins as our closer and estimating arbitration bonuses and salary escalation for the younger guys, and it totaled $75-82 million depending on how optimistic or pessimistic I was. If that’s the case, we’re really not going to be able to sign anyone big…or worth while. It’ll be interesting.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
