While I would never want our supposed start to a 36-10 run to be started off by Brian Moehler, at least his mound opponent is equally bad, if not worse.

Anyone else have a feeling

Another blown save for Lidge.
I missed the beginning of this game because I watching the end of the Braves-Phillies game of the week on Fox. 3-2 game, Phillies lead at Atlanta in the 9th. Lidge comes in and allows a “seeing eye” groundball past the 2d baseman. Next batter tries a sac bunt. Lidge is slow getting off the mound, and when he gets to the bunt, he throws it away. He throws it away badly…it ricochets into deep RF. One runner comes around to score, tying the game, and the lead runner goes to 3d. Lidge loads the bases. He Ks a batter. Then Infante, the next batter, hits a grounder past the 2d baseman for a walk off hit.
Lopez singles to the left
Counsell follows with a grounder to 2nd that Matsui get’s a glove on but can’t hold onto it.

Runners on 1st and 2d with bases loaded. IBB for Fielder.
I don’t like it. Of course, I don’t like IBBs in the first inning, in general..

Big Unit got a big round of applause
when he made a strikeout total. Makes me think they’re educated, but at least the ones that call into talk shows seem pretty stupid.
That's cause they only let the idiots on the air

The only sports radio I listen to on a regular basis is Dan Patrick
I don’t live in a city with any major sports teams, so i get a lot of college sports talk.

tv here
saying Macha was a star in Japan. Ichiro supposedly had a poster of him in his room when he was a kid. I wonder if the highlight of this game will be shown tonight a lot in Japan.
I wouldn't be suprised
If they aired his at bats in Japan, just like they did Barry Bonds at bats here.
He’s big in Japan.

Joining the game in progress
I was anxious as I drove home wondering what the score woud be when I tuned in.
Being down 3-0 is not good, but it’s a heckuva lot better than what I feared it might be.

Can Strasburg go back to school
If he doesn’t sign with the Nationals?
by Timothy De Block on Aug 15, 2009 7:38 PM CDT reply actions
Doesn’t Boras like to put his non-signees in independent ball? That’s what he did with Max Scherzer, who was a 1st round pick and didn’t sign. He played indy ball for that club in the metroplex and then was signed by D-Backs….and is now a starting pitcher for the D-Backs.
It's sad
You’re bickering millions of dollars where a deal of 10 million plus would essentially set you up for life even before throwing a single pitch in professional ball. If he sits out this year and breaks his arm falling down some stairs, he get’s nothing.
by Timothy De Block on Aug 15, 2009 7:46 PM CDT up reply actions
would he insure the arm for 50 million
like he claims Strasburg is worth?

Moehler is obviously arguing with Cooper in the dugout. Moehler is emphatic, and Cooper keeps shaking his ahead. Moehler apparently trying to stay in teh game, but unsuccessful.
As Moehler left the mound
and I saw he was lead off batter with the Astros down 3-0 and Moehler being possibly the worst hitting pitcher in the majors,. I assumed he would not bat
I go with Cooper on this one

Blum's hit definitely looked like a HR
but it was a double. Pence’s looked like a bloop and it ends up in the brewers’ bullpen.
Exactly
Especially Pence’s . He was leaning way over the plate – seemd like he was holding the bat with one hand and it’s a home run.

I've been in and out of the game all night
(water backing up into tub and into the washer)
Why is Yorman Bazardo pitching? And why is he the fourth pitcher we’ve used tonight?

funny comment from Cooper in his press conference after the game...
“It looks like we’re finally getting the bullpen straightened out. I had a whole crew of pitchers I could use in this game.”
I want to slap him.
Christ, he had a freaking fantastic “crew of pitchers,” but then he had Chris Sampson leading the league in appearances and started throwing Arias out there every other game.
I hate Cooper. I can’t wait until the Astros fire his stupid ass.

I get back in time to see part of the 9th, followed by the award ceremonies for Kaz Matsui. Cooper and the ex-Siebu Lions manager help Kaz put on the blue jacket, which is apparently the symbol of the gold player club.
Steve Sparks on the post game is pretty blunt in blaming the Astros offense for lackluster play. (Among post game analysts for Astros games, I think I like Sparks the best.) He said he didn’t want to take anything away from Mike Burns, but that this was more about the offense letting down than the pitcher. He thinks the offensive players are mentally deflated after the result of this road trip.
post-game....Moehler still seemed pretty angry.
You could tell that he was having trouble holding back from saying how he felt. He gave a lot of terse comments. He said that, yes, he is still upset with a decision that keeps him from pitching deep into a game, but he understands why it is made. He said the team needs starters to pitch deep into games. At one point, he made a frustrated comment that “I hate the National League because if your team is behind and your spot in the batting order is coming up, you can’t pitch deep into the game. I wish we had a DH.” Mostly, I think Moehler is just frustrated with the losing.
When he hears "The team needs a starter go deep"
and he is in a position to go deep, and is denied that opportunity for himself and for the team, I can imagien him how anything could have been more important for the team than his continuing.
I’ve felt tthat way at work many times.
At the time I agreed with Coper to pinch hit for Moehler; but I understand Moehler’s feelings. Of cours, Moehler had already thrown over 100 pitches and at best would last one more inning.
