Cooper on Sampson

Radio pre-game interview Cecil Cooper says he doesn’t think there is anything physically wrong with Chris Sampson except maybe some fatigue.

He says Sampson says he is healthy and ready to pitch, and he must go by that (that sounded tinny – Astros have doctors -trust them and not the player in this situation.!)

Rules of the game

Visiting team bats first.

Astros bat second in Milwaukee only when they play the Cubs there.

That base runner hurts...

because Ryan Braun, entropic’s favorite hitter, blasted a HR.

Ha.

I was looking for him at the game I went to last week.

Another mental lapse

This time by Quintero who moved way off homeplate to catch the throw (that almost went over his head) from Pence.

Run scored

Of course Wandy’s two walks before the single hurt

I wonder if Quintero

Is scared to get hit by the Brewers, since Mike Cameron knocked him out the time before.

Oh Wait.. got it.

They are just going to suck until they can get Coop fired. Good plan.

luckily they probably don’t understand what he is saying. That’s my point…I would rather have a manager who can’t even communicate with his player than what the Astros have got.

by clack on Aug 14, 2009 8:01 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought maybe Kaz was going to argue and get thrown out....

on that called strike 3. That would have really pissed off all the Japanese media waiting for him to get his hit in this game.

It's not like Sampson was a mysterious case either

He was coming off of an elbow surgery.

Why oh why did we have to give Coop an extension in April?!?!?!

Astros more disciplined than the Brewers

Astros wait until they have two outs to get their hits, and get no more than one hit an inning.

Brewers, on the other hand, get hits without regard to the numbee of outs or how many hits they’ve already had in the inning.

Maybe Coop will have Wandy throw 150 pitches today. That would teach him!

Wandy’s ERA has already gone up from 2.50 to 3.01.

we may get to see one of the more unusual deliveries in baseball today.

in fact, if I recall correctly, we had a fan shot last year which linked to a Brew Crew post with BP’s description of Gervacio’s delivery, and the Brewer fan was saying he couldn’t wait to see Gervacio’s delivery someday…..well, he gets to see it today probably.

It might take awhile for major league hitters to get used to his delivery, which is one reason he might be successful as a platoon or short reliever.

If I recall BP’s discussion of his delivery, they said he is unique in throwing a rising fastball almost underhanded. Most underhanded pitchers throw sinkers. But he throws a high velocity fastball from an angle that BP thought almost defies physics.
