Josh Fields on his way out in Chicago.

Everyone know our 3rd base situation, earlier in the year I said we should go after Andy Marte when he was placed on Waivers and we did nothing. Know I read on ESPN Insider that the white Sox are going to either trade or release Josh fields. I hope Ed Wade put in a call to his agent if he is released or offer some A ball guy for him. He was the 18th pick in the 04 draft and in 07 he hit .244 23 HR and 67 RBI and had a OPS of 788 in 100 games. He needs a change and he could be our answer to the 40 year old 3 rd baseman. Any thoughts?

I'd love to have him...

particularly for next season. I would feel much safer with the options of Keppinger, Chris Johnson and Fields at third base (maybe Blum too). Fields is a third basemen though (right?), so I’m not sure Houston has a need for him this season. He provides more power than Johnson though, so I would like to see this move made.

Fields is worth a signing for a minor league assignment, or maybe a bench role. Howeverr, it’s hard to project him providing immediate help when his current OPS is around .650 and his ML OPS last year was around .550. On the bench, as a RHB, he would be competing with Keppinger and Coste for playing / PHing time at 3b/1b, but he would provide more power potential than those guys.
