Garrett Atkins

I was reading an article on Rotoworld. It was just a team by team thing every week. Todays was about stros blowing todays game and how hunter pence bats 6 evern with Berkman on DL...Then he goes and talks about trade possiblities and mentions the trade hawkins for Atkins. Then he says that Wade is unlikely to do this bcz he doesnt wanna hurt something already good...

now i know good bullpens are key down the stretch but i think we have a good enough bullpen to do this deal...not sure what atkins' contract is but hes a HUGE improvement over Blum even if hes struggling this year...

Also pretty sure COL would do this trade bcz they need Bullpen help and they want to trade Atkins

what do you guys think?

Personally, I'm not wild about trading for Atkins...

Atkins has a large contract (7.05 million), which may keep Drayton from accepting it. Atkins is signed for only one year, which means he would be a rental. The worst part is that Atkins’ offense is worse than Geoff Blum’s right now. He is hitting .228 with a .638 OPS (wOBA .284). Blum’s wOBA is .304. And I just don’t think the odds are good that Atkins will improve. I am influenced by a Bill James article last off-season called “What happened to Garrett Atkins?” He pointed out that Atkins has had a decline in BB/K ratio of historic proportions, which usually (not always) means a precipitous decline in performance in the future.

A guy like Aubrey Huff would be a better bet to provide offense than Atkins.

Not a trade, but

I wouldn’t mind if the ASTROS gave Jeff Kent a call.
