I wonder who was taken off the 40 man roster? I don’t think Paronto was on the roster.

You’re right that Paronto wasn’t on the 40-man roster earlier, but no one had to get bumped (I could be wrong…I’m going off of my memory from a couple of weeks ago). Ed Wade has kept the 40-man roster underfilled for most of the season, usually around the 38 or 37-man level. Our recent acquisitions of German Duran and Chris Coste, however, put us up there, and calling up Paronto put us at 40 names on the roster.

However, Aaron Boone is on the 60-day DL, so he doesn’t count toward our tally, and we could theoretically add one more guy to the list.

I’d expect some name shuffling before September 1 comes around. First, Bud Norris is notably absent from the 40-man, and I think everybody expects him to get called up, at least in Sept (unless they’re protecting his arm from overuse). Second, I’m not so certain that Yordany Ramirez’s 268/280/426 line at Round Rock is going to save him from being replaced or dropped from the 40-man if Wade needs to find room for someone like Bazardo.

I bet this was way more than you were expecting as a response. Well, I’ll go ahead and throw in this bonus nugget that I just discovered: Abercrombie’s full name is Reginald Damascus Abercrombie. That is an awesome name.

Holy Cow!

With all the talk about Bud Norris and Yorman Bazardo, Paronto has somehow managed to fly under the radar…but he’s having a great season, statistically.

32.1 IP, 1.67 ERA, 2.97 FIP, 22H, 27 K, 9BB, 0.959 WHIP. He’s had a ridiculously low 0.3 HR/9, despite a relatively low 41% groundball rate (his lowest rate since firstinning.com started keeping track).

He’s not exactly a prospect at age 33, but I sure am hoping he can find some time to shine with the big club…he’s earned the opportunity, certainly.
