Futures Game: Jason Castro
Castro will become the team USA MVP if they hold on. He just knocked a three-run homer to deep right to take the lead. The prior half-inning he threw Luis Durango out at third, with a perfect bullet throw. The pitcher did not get the ball home very fast either. He was named BA's 19th best prospect, in all of baseball. However, having shown little power in AA thus far, I was beginning to get worried. His showing today, against some of the top talent in baseball, is very reassuring.

Jen-Lo just threw an inning
Gave up two walks to load the bases, but handled himself well and struck out Scott Sizemore to end the inning. Threw his fastball 95 with an easy delivery. Breaking ball was 75, but lacked command of it.
MVP! Castro looks great, really turned on that hanging breaking ball. He’s appears to be more athletic than your average catcher as well.
Castro
Like his athleticism, like his arm, that homerun was a shot too.

Castro just miss-played a wild pitch that let Brett Lawrie come in.
Hopefully Trevor Reckling can get his act together and end this game now. If the World ties or takes the lead, though, Castro will get another at-bat.
Top of the 7th right now.
Castro will bat in the bottom of the inning. World up 7-5 right now. The game started at 2 ET but do to a 4 hour rain-delay they will only play 7 innings. So, this is it.

Castro looks pretty good
turned on that pitch from a lefty pitcher. You know even if he doesn’t develop middle of the order power … he’s still a good defensive catcher and has a good eye at the plate. So if he can have a high OBP and play a good athletic catching position ….. that sounds pretty good to me.
I guess they've got similar games
Mauer is obviously more athletic. Castro won’t hit for as high an average. Hopefully power is at least comparable though.

The World’s Chia-Jen Lo, a prospect with Houston, really dialed up when he loaded the bases, touching 93 and adding 5 mph to that big curveball before fanning Scott Sizemore on a 91 mph fastball.

If you’re going to be a lefty-on-lefty guy in the big leagues, you can’t leave fastballs belt-high against them. Luis Perez found that out the hard way against Jason Castro.

Sweet.
