I can't say that I'm surprised.
If the choice is Paulino in the bullpen at the ML level or getting more starting work in at Round Rock, I’m OK with this decision. Hopefully, Paulino can get in a groove starting in AAA, and will get a chance to come back to the Astros’ starting rotation when the inevitable injury occurs. Paulino says he he doesn’t understand what the Astros want him to work on in AAA; so it sounds like communication, again, isn’t the best. Cooper says he wants Paulino to work on controlling his off speed pitches, and from I’ve seen, Paulino’s bad games seem to occur when he can’t command the breaking stuff for strikes. Perhaps it’s just a matter of getting in a rhythm with his pitches; it seems like he gets into immediate trouble sometimes and he doesn’t have the luxury of working out the kinks with all his pitches.
As for Wright, I noticed the Round Rock boxscore from Saturday seemed to indicate that he had a rough outing. I hope that isn’t a bad sign.
