There is probably no one else I'd rather have on the mound in the game which the Astros are trying to get to .500 for the first time since April 7th than Roy Oswalt, and that's all that I have to say.

why is blum starting against a left hander?
by Timothy De Block on Jul 10, 2009 7:12 PM CDT reply actions
Blum should be resting up that hammy
He should sit on the bench next to Coop and give him managing advice.
UNLESS! they’ve done something with Keppinger because of them claiming coste.

I just asked Alyson on twitter
no…Keppinger has nothing to do with Coste. Keppinger is on the team. Not going anywhere.

Braves traded Francouer to Mets for Ryan Church. Mets fans outraged; Braves fans ecstatic
I watch Cardinals – Cubs game today. Albert Pujols is a team in himself. He’s worth 2 to 4 runs a game.Cardinals lineup is evolving into a monster. Absent injury , They’ll be tough to catch.
Cubs have missed Aramis Ramirez. He just came back from DL and his presence was felt. Derrek Lee is playing much much better than he did in April and May.
The real surprise was that Soraino is playing confused. He is being booed and ridiculed. I expect some kind of major blow-up with him farily soon.

Copied in from Amazin Avenue on the Mets fans view. I was going to add a few from the over 150 comments so far on Amazin Avenue but Carlos Lee hit a homerun and I scampered back here
If Ihave time I’ll put a few Mets fans comments and a few Braves fans comments.

I think picking up Olson was a good move for the Nats. He has great stuff. He also may have an attitude problem, though.

was upbeat and praising his players.
He didn’t sound like the guy criticized on TCB and in the Chronicle

That’s good. Criticizing players publicly is the something a manager should only consider as an extreme last resort. Maybe this will help the team continue to gel and improve in the second half.

On Blum
Radio just said Coop said he was going to start playing Blum against all kinds of pitchers once they got home. Didn’t say why.
And he gets a hit.
JD and Brown talking about fans booing Blum last night. I agree with them, it was kind of odd. You don’t hear that from Astros fans too often.
Your friendly neighborhood Dream Shake mod.
yeah…I agree. I felt like Blum was in the wrong place at the wrong time…in the sense that the Astros blew the first game and they were playing terribly in the second game at the time Blum got his double…fans saw some bad defensive plays by the Astros just prior…and they thought Blum wasn’t hustling and he bore the brunt of fan discontent.

Since I am anti -bunt
I’ll say Oswalt’s bunt with two men on and no out is okay but only because he is a pitcher and likely would not have gotten a hit anyway (though Roy may have)

I wonder how much playing time Pence will get, now that we know the All Star...
roster. Victorino was voted in, and I assume he will play CF. Jayson Werth, a RFer, was added by Manuel to replace Beltran. (The Phillies now have all three of their outfielders on the NL All Star team.) There are a bunch of RFers on the NL all star team. Werth and Pence can also play CF in a pinch.
My guess is
Pence will be used as a pinch hitter.

I find myself not trusting the bullpen in close situations. We are going for .500 after all
Earlier in the day, I referred to Murphy's Law (or Cooper's Law) striking in this series.
And now this fits the Murphy’s Law idea (Oswalt going down with a hand injury).
im extremely nervous about oswalt
I hope this isn’t going to be a DL thing and hope he’s fine to go after the break………..
It’s probably similar to Wandy’s blister early in the season in which case it’s a good thing it happened before the break so Roy can heal up
