Bourn
seems very vulnerable to breaking stuff down and inside. That seems to be the #1 way he strikes out.

MLB network today
They had a look in of the Padres ballpark this afternoon and there was about an 8 or 9 year old kid taking batting practice. Joe Magrane – that’s David Eckstein

Why is it
that a player that is so shitty – he can’t hit or field well at all – be at the center of so many bad moments for the Astros?

Eckstein is a winner
He ‘s a pain to play against, but he helps his teams win. Wasn’t he the shortstop on Angels team that went to the World Series then was on a Cardinals team that went to and maybe won the World Series??
(I’ll research tha tbold assertion now)

World Series MVP
He was a member of the 2002 World Series champion Anaheim Angels (now the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim), as well as the 2006 Champions, the St. Louis Cardinals, where he was selected 2006 World Series MVP.

I'll give you 2002
He was good then, but 2006 Eckstein was below replacement level in offense and defense.

Broadcasters mentioned that Astros picked up German Duran
off waivers from Texas Rangers. He had an appendectomy and is immediately put on the DL by Astros. Here are his stats. He had a good AA season two years ago, with 22 HRs. He is a utility infielder, 25 years old. I am guessing there must be something the Astros’ scouts like, which doesn’t show up in the numbers.

I wondered why Headley had been playing the outfield earlier in the series. Headley was supposed to be a good 3d base prospect…but obviously his defense is better in the OF.

For you newcomers (and I hope I'm right on this )
saylinara designed the Wandilicious t-shirt (and maybe came up with the term Wandilicous)
How accurate was that ?

by Joe in Birmingham on Jul 1, 2009 10:23 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think I came up with the term
But I definitely used it the most. Hell, I loved Wandy before most people even thought he’d spend a full year in the majors. I have a weird attachment to low-level pitchers.
I still have the t-shirt in my closet though, heh.

You can get a custom T-shirt for $30, with up to 12 letters (Wandilicious is 12 letters!).
And the last time I checked, the following coupon code got you 25% off:
REAWATWEN5
They come in Cooperstown Orange, Black, and Brick Red
I don’t mean to sound like a company shill, but I’ve had my eye on it for a while now and have been wanting to do the Wandilicious thing myself.

I mentioned the pick up of German Duran in an earlier post. This blog in the Dallas Morning News makes it sound like the Rangers are pissed because they were only a couple of hours away from clearing him through waivers and keeping him in their system. Apparently he was a high school star in Fort Worth, and the comments on that blog are surprisingly negaitive about the Rangers’ decision on Duran. Not directly related to Sutton, but I thought it was interesting that Rangers’ fans complained a bit about the Astros picking him up.
Sutton, by the way, has a good OPS for Louisvilled (.885).

Sounds like the Rangers are trying to play
it as though they couldn’t wait for his appendectomy recovery, but then they replaced with a guy that they sent to AAA… Almost sounds like there was some other problem they’re trying to cover up.

Club seats, actually
7th row. I had to stop taking pictures in the middle of the game because four ex-frat boys came and plopped down in front of me. But I was able to rearrange for Valverde, since I had no pictures of him at all, even from previous games. I liked the seats, because the box seats tend to be too flat for getting good pictures of the players, especially if you aren’t one of the first few rows. Usually I’ll try and get good pictures of the park when i’m sitting in the box seats.
