Possible Trading Chips
So after 2 months and a week, the stros are doing what they are known to do...they are stuggling at home and early on in the season. Now in my opinion, we can still make the playoffs as we are a great 2nd half team. So with that being said, I am here to talk about the trade deadline and what astros can be on the go. Now since the stros are sure to be Buyers (when was the last time the stros were sellers) I am not putting up any names like Oswalt, Lee, Berkman...
Miguel Tejada - Currently leads the league in average for you astros. Many teams are looking for a SS or 3b. Some teams think of him only as an SS though which might hurt. In terms of being traded at or b4 the deadline, I'll give it a 40% chance for now.
Jose Valverde - He hasn't pitched so much this year due to an injury, but every team, knows he is one of the best when healthy. Now I believe he leaves to FA after this year. If we do trade him he is sure to give us a good prospect, if we keep him and then let him go, he will prolly end up a Type A FA and can get us another pick next year. With that said, i believe the stros might wanna keep him and pick up the pick next year so i'll give him a 20% chance of getting dealt.
Latroy Hawkins - I believe that many teams will be looking at valverde for rp help, but if i'm right, wade will try and deal hawkins instead of valverde. Hawkins has done really well for the stros, and i must say that wen we signed him last year i disliked the move, but now im ver happy about it. Honestly i think we can get a mid-level prospect for him (a top 25 prospect from a team)(not top 10). I'd give him a 35% chance of being dealt.
Kaz Matsui - He Sucks PERIOD! I want the stros to deal his but outta here but with that terrible contract (and i think he might have a no-trade clause (not sure bout that tho)) chance of him being dealt is around 0% unless a bad injury occurs to a good 2b in the league and a team desperatly needs a 2b (if utley, roberts, cano, kinsler, etc. get hurt for extended period of time b4 deadline)
Other Relievers - possible they are dealt, wont get into anyone specific but maybe other teams like someone we've got...(Percantage varies)
Now as far as getting someone? I've heard Derosa's name a hell of a lot this past month being dealt. Is it possible CLE would take Hawkins (needing bullpen help) along with a minor leaguer of ours for Derosa? I would like to c Derosa at 3rd over the shitty Geoff Blum, also keppinger at SS (if tejada is dealt for prospect) and Maysonet at 2nd (if somehow Matsui is traded)...
well what do you guys think? add to a it if u'd like...

My 2 cents
As much as I want us to go for the playoffs, we need to restock our farm.
1. Miguel Tejeda should be dealt for 2-5 prospects
2. Valverde I don’t think so, he is our closer and ya.
3. Matsui should be dealt, but I don’t think so either.
4. Blum for a sub-par prospect?
5.Hawkins will be dealt
Big Numbers
i agree
but honestly i think we can do both…
assuming we trade matsui, tejada, blum, and hawkins for prospects then i still think we can compete if we are healthy…
maysonet at 2nd to replace matsui…keppinger can reaplace tejada at SS and Chris johnson or maybe someone we pick up at 3rd…i think its quite possible…

I think...
if Wandy is capable of stringing together a couple of good starts, package him up, and ship him off… I have no problem with him, but he isn’t consistent enough for what we may be able to get for him. I said it before, the White Sox are still looking for a pitcher that can get them in the post season. It is definitely worth a try.
A Walk Is As Good As A Hit.
I love Wandy
He’s one of my favorite recent Astros success stories (not that there have been all that many). But I have to agree that if he can pull in a decent return in a trade, the Astros should consider it, particularly if it allows us to cut ties with some of our more expensive players at the end of the season.
It’ll be a couple of years until we really start seeing the effect of Bobby’ Heck’s drafting at the major league level, and at that point, Wandy will probably already have started to see age-related declines in effectiveness.
Of course, all of this depends on other teams finding Wandy desireable enough to trade for him. Even though he’s due for a pay raise in the offseason, he’s still relatively cheap for a good starter, so it’s a definite possibility.
well
i was thinking about SP’s and wandy never crossed my mind last night, not sure y…yea shoulda put him up there, i would hvae no problem dealing him too!

Wandy could bring a high price
The latest skid would affect it, but with a starting pitcher its hard to say how much. The little I have seen from highlights, he looked tired or something. Coop said one start that he wasn’t “crisp.” Other than results, does his pitching look the same?
His mechanics have gotten out of sorts in the last couple of games.
Jim Deshais commented that Wandy seemed to lower his arm angle to attack the tougher RHBs in the last game, and then had trouble finding his normal arm slot after that.
Also, in his last game, the Astros (and Deshais) seemed to think that the Pirates read something in his delivery which alerted them to the curveball.
Pudge is also a possibility
Why Pudge would make a good trading chip: He’s cheap ($1.5 mil base salary), his OPS is pretty decent (at least by Houston catcher standards), and he’s a veteran of multiple World Series
Why Pudge would not make a good trading chip: his production is down from his most dominant years, catchers are probably the least portable position mid-season since they have to learn their pitchers, and we’d have to trust in Q/Towles to finish out the season
agree
good call there, i was gonna put pudge but i just dont think he would bring back much, but your right, he has put up decent numbers and maybe we can get something

I think the Astros' views on trading may depend on their record...
around the middle of July. If the winning percentage gets a lot worse, I could see the Astros making an effort to trade some veterans. That’s not a sure thing, though. I could just as easily see the Astros holding tight in that situation too.
If the Astros are near .500, or better than that, I don’t see the Astros trading any of the vets which are mentioned unless they get a player they need right now (like a starting pitcher).
I would not be inclined to trade Wandy unless you get a really big haul in return. Otherwise, I think free agent pitching is so expensive that you have to keep a team control pitcher like Wandy. I don’t see the Astros taking the view that “we can get rid of Wandy, because we are writing off the next couple of years.” That’s not Drayton’s style, nor do I think it is Wade’s style.
yea
i honestly think in regard to wandy, if he can keep his era and whip numbers good ERA arouund 3 and whip no higher then 1.25, then we can get a nice overhaul…
anyone think peavy is still a possiblity???
Wandy, Towles, Tejada (they need SS, tho i think they want a young one), Paulino and another prospect might do?
