Fangraphs looks at Bazardo
Yorman Bazardo's success at Round Rock gets some attention from Fangraphs. Matthew Carruth wonders why Bazardo seemingly can't keep a job in several organizations, despite the fact that he is young and has pitching success in the minors. Carruth thinks that Bazardo's stats suggest he could be a No. 5 starter in the major leagues. Carruth mentions something I hadn't heard: rumors that Bazardo may be older than 24 years old and speculation about attitude issues in the past. He mentions that these are simply rumors which have dogged him in the past and are not necessarily true.

Fangraphs and BA did an article on Bazardo on the same day.
Interesting that Fangraphs floats makeup as a possible issue. Here’s what Ricky Bennett said about Bazardo in the BA article:
“I called Britt [the Astros’ minor league pitching coordinator] to talk to him about him and he really liked his upside, liked his personality, his makeup and the stuff,” Bennett said. “It was a no-brainer for us to sign him, and he’s been lights out.”
that’s interesting. I take most reputations/rumors about bad attitude with a large grain of salt. sometimes there are two side to the story. also, people can change. sometimes, just the fact that a player has been released from several organizations can create the rumor, even if there is no basis. (of course, that is the kind of thing I said when the Astros signed Shawn Chacon.)
age issue
I noticed a comment added to the Fangraphs article about the rumors that Bazardo may be older than his stated age. The commenter said that he is from Venezuela and Venezuela is one central american country with a reliable and accurate system for birth records; apparently none of the age accuracy problems within baseball involve Venezuelan players, according to the commenter. I don’t know if that is true, but I thought I would point it out.
