Unofficial Scorer: Talked to Maysonet and Cooper today, and the plan was always for Maysonet to be a bench player, which was interrupted by injuries that made him start. I wouldn't have minded seeing him get a few more ABs, but I don't think you would have seen him keep up those averages in more exposure.

The quotes are from Zach Levine's liveblog of the final game of the Royals series
Unofficial Scorer: Cooper just won’t play him. He said he brought him up to be a role player and isn’t budging from that despite the strong start when injuries forced him in.
This is what I am talking about when I say Cooper just used logic in his evaluations
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I must be missing the concept of "role player."
The Astros have a role called “he doesn’t play?”
Geoff Blum has been on the DL, and so you would think that maybe Maysonet would share some playing time with Keppinger at 3d base, since Kepp is effective mainly against LHPs. In the couple of appearances Maysonet got at 3d base many days ago, he seemed to handle the position well.
Most “role players,” like Loretta or Bruntlett, were given a reasonable amount of playing time.
Maysonet projects as a bench player
True, but when Kaz Matsui is playing like a worse bench player he should be playing his best bench player and give him an opportunity to prove he’s maybe not a bench player.
