Tejada to Boston?

After reading about Clay Bucholz wanting out of Boston (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/06/buchholz-and-bowden-on-boston-rotation.html), i was wondering who needs SP...well that would be your houston astros...now lets c what position Boston needs...Look! It's Shortstop. Jed Lowrie has been hurt and unimpressive and even Kaz Matsui might be better then Julio Lugo (ok maybe not) but Boston needs Tejada...

Y not a trade involing Miguel Tejada with Felipe Paulino or a AAA player for Bucholz?

We could definetly use an arm like bucholz and Boston needs a Shortstop...what say you guys?

How about Bucholz and another player for Tejada

Aren’t the Red Sox in the greater need ?

Either way I don’t see it happening unless Astros are truly confident Maysonet or Tommy Manzella can deliver as much as Tejada at short.

I’d prefer a Jason Smith for Bucholz swap. Yeah – that’s the ticket.

Boston would not do Buchholz for one of the highly touted Texas C

there is no way they do it for Tejada.

Best case, Tejada for Bowden

More likely Tejeda and a prospect for Bowden and a lesser prospect

Worst case Tejeda and Towels for Bowden and a lesser prospect

I agree with about the Texas Catchers

But I do think things have changed for the Sox since then. However, I’m not so sure the Sox will really be shopping for a SS because Lowrie is just on the DL right now—not ineffective.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Me neither...

depends a lot on how Lowrie’s rehad starts this week in instructs and then AAA this weekend go. If he is still having problem it would be possible. The problem is that Lugo and Tejada this season are close to equal defensively. That would mean they would hae to eat the 7 or so M left on Lugo contract plus take 10 or so M for Tejeda plus prospects for an offensive only upgrade…

Bitter pill to swallow.

That pill could be made sweeter...

if the Astros could eat a little salary of Tejada’s contract. That would be worth it to get a guy like Bucholz in the NL Central where pitchers usually do quite well after being solid in the NL East.

Of course, this is probably all just a pipe dream.

I Imagine

The Red Sox would love to have a bat like Tejada’s in their lineup. He could very well put them over the top in the hunt for October.

Whereas, we would love to diminish some payroll and get a prospect, to boot.

I’m for a one-to-one trade. The Red Sox org can eat his salary and would surely be willing to give up one minor leaguer they don’t even want to start in the bigs as the lone compensation.

Of course, we would be shafting ourselves at position 6, but it’s all about building for the future and crawling out from under a potentially oppressive contract, no?

i can c it working

but i can c it not working too…

listen if its proposed, the stros need to get on it now…Manzella/Kepp can hold that down for now…

bucholz would be huge for our future and present!

This is the last year of Tejada's contract.

How is it “potentially oppressive?”

Yeah

Sorry, I was having a Carlos Lee moment there.

You never know...

Tejada for Bucholtz sounds good to me.

I’ll also mention that the link doesn’t really say that Bucholz wants out of Boston. He said his goal is to pitch for the Red Sox. But he thinks he is ready to pitch in the majors, whether it is with the Red Sox or with another team.

Sure, a Tejada for Bucholz trade would be a steal for the Astros. But that will not happen. Maybe, if Oswalt were traded to the Red Sox, you could get Bucholz as part of the return (that may be optimistic too), but Drayton has already said he isn’t trading Oswalt.

Can we maybe put a stop

to all this wild and implausible trade speculation, at least until there’s even an inkling of a notion that under some forseeable circumstance, the Astros might consider thinking about being sellers? frankly, it’s just nausiating right now.

and I'll say the same thing I said at the Dream Shake

If you’re going to post about a trade you think would be good, at least make it feasible. This Tejada-for-Bucholz crap is just astoundingly stupid.

When posting a trade possibility there are two things you need to consider:

1. Recognize that the other team knows everything you know. Boston knows Tejada is 36. They know his best years came when he was on steroids. They know he fell off tremendously in the second half last year. They know his defense wildly fluctuates. None of these things are little secrets. Boston does not think Tejada is a spry shortstop who can be counted on to hit .340 for the rest of the year. Hence, they will not trade for him as if he is.

2. Ask yourself, if you were a fan of the other team, would you make that trade? Would you trade one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, albeit one who had struggled in the majors, for four months of an overpaid, aging shortstop; who is very likely to have a dropoff, if not a huge dropoff, from his present stats. Also note that your young shortstop is almost back from an injury.

Tejeda

I don’t care to whom, but Miggy needs to be traded this year. He is hitting the ball well but he will not be useful when the Astros are in contention again. I honestly believe that we should scrap the whole team, rebuild the farm system, and rebuild for a couple years. Tejeda, Lee, Pudge (if anybody wants him), Berkman, and maybe even Roy O. Also Valverde will be highly sought after in July by a contender.

Comments?

by BIGGIO7 on Jun 19, 2009 12:37 PM CDT reply actions

yes

the exact same comments that can be made for any post about “scrapping the team.”

1) Lee cannot be traded. He is owed a spectacular amount of money, most of which is back-loaded, and he is pretty much limited to DHing for a club that has any concern that balls hit into LF aren’t automatic doubles. Beyond that, he has a no-trade clause for the next two years of his contract, and he has said that the only team he’d agree to go to would be the Rangers, and they have better, cheaper options.
2) Berkman has a no-trade clause. Now, his contract is a bargain, but that’s because he agreed to take a pay cut for a no-trade clause. He reportedly has three teams that he’d agree to be traded to: the Rangers (who almost certainly wouldn’t take him, given that Davis does alright and Smoak will be there some time next year), Yankees (who definitely would have taken him last year, but probably wouldn’t this year), and another NL club (most think it’s Cincinnati).
3) Oswalt has a no-trade clause. He’s the one most willing to waive it, and that’s why there’s all these rumors out there about him. Of the three highest-paid Astros, Oswalt is probably the most likely one to be traded.
4) Tejada has one year left on his contract, and most teams think he’s really a 3B now. It’s really unlikely he’ll keep hitting like this, and (this is important, because it’s the critical mistake that every internet poster out there makes) the other teams know that. It’s not like it’s a secret known only to the Astros and their fans that Tejada really isn’t a .350 hitter. What’s more, he only has one year left on his contract (which is good, because he’s not worth $13 millions), so anybody who traded for him will only get a few months of him. You won’t get much in return.
5) Nobody wants Pudge.
6) Otherwise, the only guys on the team who are legitimately tradeable are Valverde, Wandy, Pence, and maybe Bourn.

okay

Now I’m curious as hell as to what other team Berkman would go to. If the Yanks are 1 of 3, maybe its the dreaded Cubs. What’s needed now is a lad to hide in the Astros offices, photograph that contract over night and sneak out in the morning.

by ol Pete on Jun 19, 2009 1:25 PM CDT up reply actions

heh

well, the reasoning behind the rumor that he’d accept a trade to the Reds is because of how awesome he hits in the GABP. That’s not true of Wrigley (oddly enough), and I’ve never heard anyone imply he’d accept a trade there.

Berkman hates Wrigley Field and he is hated by Cubs' fans...

for saying that. I don’t see Berkman traded anywhere.

by clack on Jun 19, 2009 4:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh yeah, they don't like him one bit.

You’re right, though. There’s virtually no way Berkman gets traded. Drayton probably sees him (even more than Oswalt) as Astros fans’ favorite player (and he’d be right about that), and getting rid of him would not be a popular move.

The only way Berkman leaves is if he does it on his own. Either he demands a trade or he walks when it’s time for a new contract. But I think it’s pretty safe to say that he’ll play his whole career in Houston.

Number 6

Don’t forget Latroy Hawkins. A lot of people are liking what they see out of him.

by Irish Pete on Jun 19, 2009 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I think the chances of Oswalt being traded are close to zero.

I base that on Drayton McLane’s email to Newsday, which was very clear and plain in its response about Oswalt. McLane said he was agreeable to the no trade clause for Oswalt because he has no intention of ever trading him. McLane said that he feels strongly about both Berkman and Oswalt finishing their career in Houston. He said that if Oswalt came to him and asked to be traded, he would attempt to talk him out of it. He said he considers Oswalt to be a close personal friend .

OK, you may disagree with McLane’s personalizing the trade question. But it’s his team. If he feels strongly that a player should stay with his team because he feels that player is part of his family or whatever, that is his choice.
