Astros will bat against Maholm.
I consider Maholm and Hampton to be similar type LH pitchers. Maholm is younger, though. The Astros normally have trouble with Maholm.
Lead off HR for Pirates (McLouth)
That makes you wonder if something bad is wrong with Hampton. When Hampton gives up long flies, he is doing something wrong.
Berkman walks, advances to 2d, and Quintero drives him in...
with a bouncing grounder up the middle.
Kudos Humberto

JD says he can't get into eating pierogi at the ballpark.
Since I didn’t know what that is…I had to google it. Here is the Wikipedia version…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierogi
Apparently what they at PNC is filled with potato, since JD said he normally likes potato food.
huh
I thought the dough was a potato flour, but they’re just starchy little dumplings to me. The li’l woman is half polish so of course she really likes them.
since I know nothing about it to begin with...
I’m just trying to figure it out.
Funny how certain types of food exist in cuisines throughout the world. The dumpling is like that. All kinds of Asian versions. English and other european versions.
don't know what the filling is at the ballpark in Pittsburgh.
Maybe a variety of fillings. The wikipedia article made me think that potato and cheese is a typical filling. To tell you the truth, it sounds kind of good, particularly if you put sour cream and bacon on it, like the ones pictured in the wikipedia article.
Symbolic of the Astros offense this season

Excellent play Maysonet
Sidearm throw to first while moving toward left looked smooth (but difficult)

That lead off HR against Hampton turns out to be aberrant, rather than a pattern.
He has been getting virtually nothing but groundballs since then. Deshais says the outfielders are the like T-ball kids sent to the outfield who spend their time picking petunias.
Michaels has a lot of bad luck, it seems to me.
That time Michaels drove the RFer to the wall to catch his shot.
Mike Hampton has 7 more hits this season
than Jason Smith.
He could be our pinch hitter

That was a spectacular play by Berkman.
Hampton fielded the ball and somehow seemingly threw it away. But Berkman caught it on a bounce and for an instant had his foot on the bag as he grabbed the ball far to the foul side of the bag.
WOW _ Berkman's amazing save of errant throw
Hampton’s throw was probabaly eight feet off to the dugout side of0 first . Berkman adjusted his body and stretched to make the catch (and did not ahe much time to do alll this) .
TheTV guys called the play as the ball goes into right field before they realized Lance caught it

Chris Sampson relieves
Except for the lead off man, Hampton had a great outing. (and he scored the go-ahead run)

Exciting second out in the 9th.
wild pitch strike out by Hawkins. Quintero retrieved it near base of screen but overthrew it to Berkman, who made a great save for the out. Not sure how he did it.
Quintero’s throwing has been inaccurate since he returned from DL. He also had errant throws in RR on his rehab. Makes me wonder if his shoulder is totally good.
Another big stretch by Berkman
Third strike goes to the backstop . By the time Quintero gets to the backstop (Ball stopped there) , he hurried his throw to first . Berkman stretched high and higher and caught the ball

but inconsequential as Hawkins gets K on swing and miss.
Can’t beat good old country hardball in the 9th.
Berkman tags runner out by a foot
but ump calls him safe ! Boo

I'm impressed that Hawkins could come and pitch so well...
after as much time has elasped since his most recent effort. It seems like 4 or 5 days since a save opportunity when he could pitch.
Very nice back-to-back quality starts from Hampton/Moehler
if we can get any sort of consistency from them, along with the dominating Wandy and Oswalt gets healthy, we’ll be ok.
