Carlos Lee has not had an RBI in last ten games
That’s one factor in why Astros have been losing.
Gets another shot at it with Tejada on second (walk, wild pitch)

Astros fail to score
Pudge struck out with bases loaded.
It has been a frustrating trend in this losing tstreak for the Astros to have many baserunners with very few of them scoring

Maysonet leads off 2d inning with double.
Hmm…makes you wonder how much the Astros lost at the back up utility infielder position by keeping Smith over Maysonet.
Bourn with a line drive....
and then Maysonet is held at third by Clark, putting Bourn into a run down situation at 2d base. Bourn stays in a rundown long enough to allow Maysonet to score.
Amazing. This is the second time in a row (previously game in Cincy with Tejada at bat) that Clark made Maysonet put on the brakes and left the runner going to second high and dry. At least Maysonet scored this time, but that was because Bourn is quicker and can keep the rundown going. But Bourn was mad as you can see after he is tagged and glared toward Dave Clark. I don’t know what Clark’s problem is with Maysonet. Maysonet is a fairly fast player.
JD making a similar point....
he said Astros’ coaches need to get together and decide what to do in those 3d base situations. Tejada was angry with Cruz in previous situation….making me think that Cruz is assuming that 3d base coach will send runner in those situations.
Not the first very poor example of baserunning
this year
this month
this week…
It takes more than pitching to win a pennant, but not much!
Tejada is thrown out at 2d base on attempt to make Berkman's fly ball a sacrifice.
Overly aggressive base running. It’s very difficult to take 2d on a sac fly. You basically are saying that the outfielder isn’t competent to get the ball into the infield accurately.
Tejada -12 game hitting streak after a single
But he is out after he tried to tag and run to second on Berkman’s fly out.

is Jose Cruz?

Hard to believe Cruz
has much to do with it. Certainly would be a departure from his style of the past few years. Strategies such as that ultimately have to be the responsibility of the manager.
It takes more than pitching to win a pennant, but not much!
Before the rundown situations, I think Cruz was waving the runner to keep going to 2d. My assumption is that he believed Clark would send the runner from 3d on those plays. I don’t know if Cruz had anything to do with Tejada trying to advance on a flyball to CF. Maybe Cruz has instructions to push the envelope with runners going to second, who knows? But it is very unusual for the runner to advance to 2d on a sac fly.
I agree
I couldn’t believe Clark would hold up the runner. The advance had to be ad lib – it just doesn’t make sense – not even from Cooper.

OMG. Clark made Pence put on the brakes.
Pence couldn’t get back to 3d base fast enough and get thrown out. What a friggin’ disaster at 3d base on offense.
When Cooper gets the axe
they need to send Clark with him.

Maysonet is new
He battled with Jason Smith for utility spot – was sent to Round Rock. Has been with the team maybe a week, playing because both Blum and Matsui injured.
He showed promise each time he’s played , but this is his breakout game.

early on in the spring, I wrote an article about Manzella vs. Maysonet....
as in, who is the best choice for utilty infielder. Looking at their minor league careers, I concluded that Maysonet was probably the best choice for utility infielder, a guy who can play all positions and is a good blend of defense and offense. At the time, I didn’t really think that Jason Smith, the 31 year old veteran fringe player, had a chance. It’s probably not worth my time looking in the archives.
Maysonet out stretching at the plate
Clark couldn’t have sent him – or could he?

Matsui DL'd....Kata called up from Round Rock.
That is late breaking news from the Astros’ broadcast.
That's a surprise
I was under the impression Matsui would be back this series. Of course, giving Maysonet more playing opportunities is fine with me too, especially after today.
