Both of them have had some pretty hot starts to the season.

I’m not surprised about C.J. Lo—I thought he’d been started off a level too low this year.
However, I’d gotten the vibe from the front office that they were going to try to make him a starter. His usage, though, has definitely been as a reliever.

Meszaros’s recent success is a huge step up from the results he got last year in Tri-Cities, but luck and small sample sizes have really thrown his ERA numbers out of proportion. But basically, in his short time in the system, he’s had roughly a 40% K rate and a 7% BB rate. Pretty stellar stuff, and I’m happy to see the front office moving them along quickly.

Did Corpus just have spots open due to injury/poor performance? Or is this part of housekeeping as we approach the draft?

Meszaros is having a really great season so far,

and I wonder if this is an indication of a larger organizational decision: if possible, move pitchers from A straight to AA, bypassing Lancaster. Lancaster had a reputation for destroying prospects’ confidence, simply because of its extreme hitter-friendly dimensions. Maybe the Astros are trying to keep their pitchers out of there, if they can.

Of course, it could simply be that they don’t think Meszaros needs the extra instruction in A+ ball. His numbers certainly indicate domination.

Chad Wagler and his 4.44 ERA were sent down to Lancaster. Andy Van Hekken(5.00 ERA) went up to RR to fill the spot left that opened when Jeff Fulchino went back up to Houston.
