Science of Baseballs

There've been a lot of home runs already this season (particularly at New Yankee Stadium, particularly when the Yankees aren't batting) and there's been some talk lately about whether or not the balls are "juiced".  I don't have an opinion one way or the other, but I do know that this episode of Wired Science, watchable on hulu.com, has a really good segment about how these guys in a lab somewhere randomly test baseballs to make sure they meet specs.

The baseball segment runs for the first 10-12 minutes or so, then there's a segment with the host from MTV's Singled Out that wasn't Jenny McCarthy, and then around the 27-minute mark there's a segment about awesome wheelchairs for wheelchair athletes.

But watch the baseball segment...good slow-mo of balls hitting bats.
