Philip Humber could have been had?
Read today that former Rice and 1st rd draft pick Philip Humber could have been picked up on waivers, but no team made a claim on him. Wow we let a Texas kid and former top prospect get away. I sometime wonder what goes thru our GM and Owners head. What makes this worse is Philip Humber is from Carthage and I think that is where Drayton is from. He had to know about him hell they had Philip Humber Day when Rice won the world Series.

Nobody else wanted him...
…so why should we??…nobody picked him up off waivers cause the guy just isnt good…just because you were good and college and your a local boy doesnt mean you should be picked up…especially when nobody else wants you…good move Astros

Humber was waived and is now in the Twins AAA rotation.
He must have been out of options. He was clobbered in 4.1 innings at the major league level, giving up 11 hits and 6 runs. If he is out of options, it’s not realistic for the Astros or any other team to pick him up, because they would have to put him on the big league roster. Who would he replace? And obviously he needs work which he can’t get at the major league level.

There's a reason 28 other teams passed on him as well...
Before you cry about Humber ask yourself this: If this was Philip Humber from some city in Wisconsin would you care about this? I’m going to assume the answer is “no.” If your justifications for claiming a player are that “he is from Texas” and “he was good in college many years ago” then you need to reevaluate how you form opinions.
This is one of the things that frustrates me about Astros fans, being from New York. I couldn’t care less whether a player grew up 15 minutes away from me or in Africa; whether he produces or not is all that matters to me.

His number are not that bad ( Please see link) http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/H/Philip-Humber.shtml also we can take on Ortiz and Hampton after they have had Tommy John surgeries but cant take ona kid who is 27? Also as for the whloe Texas thing if you are not from Texas you would not understand and belive it or not if he is from Wisconsin or New York and in 2007 he pitched 139 IP with 120 K with 4.27 era and my minor league’s are completely depleted I would work a deal to trade for him then send him down and hope he can make a break thru with a new team. I forget we love signing 40 year olds I hear Shane Renyolds is available lets bring him back!!!

It wasn't about talent
They didn’t pick him up because they didn’t have the roster space. We would have to kick one of our own guys off the roster to pick him up…we couldn’t stash him in the minors.
And now I see that clack already pointed this out. Sorry for the redundancy

I'll also mention that sometimes GMs have a gentlemen's agreement...
early in the year for “non-trade” waivers to move players back down to the minors. Wade let the cat out of the bag about that (it has been rumored previously) last year. GMs agree not to claim each other’s players in order to simplify movement of players to the minors.

He's from Texas
I always like to back a Texan but if the guy doesn’t have it he doesn’t have it. These guys are right we don’t have the roster space. Besides why would you want another project every pitcher in the system is recovering from an injury or trying to settle into a good groove. The last thing we need is another “might be good one day” guy.
And Drayton is from Cameron, Tx not Carthage.
