I agree, somewhat...but I think it also depends on the catcher and pitcher.

Last year, I felt that Cooper challenged the best catchers, as well as lefthanded pitchers, when it wasn’t a good percentage….even with good runners.

Tejada strikes out

inevitably, someone is going to say that situational hitting is killing the Astros. To some degree, that’s true. But I’d say it’s more true that the Astros NEED to capitalize on these situations only because they get so few of them.

Cardinals been laying down a lot

of “perfect” bunts today, according to Buck

by lnewcomer on Apr 11, 2009 4:39 PM CDT reply actions

everything the Cardinals do

is perfect according to Buck. Pujols is the perfect hitter and TLR can do no wrong.

another double

Bourn just missed it. run scores

by lnewcomer on Apr 11, 2009 4:41 PM CDT reply actions

bourn looked lost on that double

catchable ball. tougher play with the shadows around home and the sky apparently

by lnewcomer on Apr 11, 2009 4:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Roy missed his spot

Bourn loses the ball in the sun

by Only_A_Lad on Apr 11, 2009 4:41 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn looked horrible on that attempted catch.

May have been uncatchable anyway.

He never saw the ball, according to McCarver.

by clack on Apr 11, 2009 4:41 PM CDT reply actions

sun is killing Bourn

I think he could’ve gotten it were it not for the distractions of the ball coming out of a shadow.

by goingforthecorner on Apr 11, 2009 4:41 PM CDT reply actions

walk by Roy.

1 out, 2 on base. Dangerous situation.

by clack on Apr 11, 2009 4:44 PM CDT reply actions

I wouldn't call it meaningless

we had to waste Oswalt in Game 6 when we could’ve had him for Game 1 against the White Sox.

on GameDay

it was about 93, thigh-high, on inside corner. hard to say for sure, but I bet he probably wanted it further in off the plate

by lnewcomer on Apr 11, 2009 4:49 PM CDT up reply actions

ball looked knee high on the replay.

Pujols looked impressive going down for the ball.

Motte in the game.

Ortiz warming up. Lee with a hit up the middle.

by clack on Apr 11, 2009 4:52 PM CDT reply actions

have to wonder if outcome in that inning

is different if Astros had managed to put a few runs on the board in the first few innings. Just in terms of the mindset of Oswalt

by lnewcomer on Apr 11, 2009 5:04 PM CDT reply actions

bizarre DP

Berkman picks a hot grounder, steps on first and short hops Tejada at 2nd. Molina actually beat the throw, but slid off the bag and Tejada tagged him.

weird conundrum

I’ve had this feeling a couple times already this season when Michaels or whoever that utility infielder comes up to pinch hit.

I miss Orlando Palmeiro.

It’s completely irrational and I don’t want him back, but there’s this thought when Jason Michaels is announced as the pinch hitter and you just say, “who?”. I’m actually all in favor of cheap(er) guys who can play in favor of overpriced veterans, but I have to admit, there’s something there. I imagine that’s one reason managers/GM’s hang on to those type guys as much as they do.

anyway, the game is depressing so I thought I’d throw that out and let y’all tear it apart

by lnewcomer on Apr 11, 2009 5:16 PM CDT reply actions

Palmeiro was a good reserve player for a number of years as an Astros.

But the Astros kept him for too long….after he had outlived his usefulness. The Astros did the same with Jose Vizcaino…and I was a big fan of Viz. But he was a great role player for several years, then fell off a cliff.

Schumaker on with a broken bat grounder to Tejada. And Rasmus with a bouncer over Blum’s jump. 2 on no outs.
