Brocail back to Houston to have shoulder examined

Brocail back to Houston to have shoulder examined

In the linked article Footer reports that Brocail notified the team he was feeling discomfort similar to the tendinitis he reported back in Spring Training. Said he had trouble locating his pitches as a result during the game tonight.

""I had tendinitis in Spring Training, and the tendinitis went away and I thought it was all done and over with," Brocail said. "All of a sudden, it's back. Anytime I have to throw out of the windup to try to get on top of the ball, I'm in trouble. I'm a strike-thrower, and I couldn't find a release point to save my life."

We should have our heads examined for ever counting on him to begin with.

yeah

he had a great year, but counting on him to stay healthy a year after a career high in innings at what like 58 years old? that is probably not wise. His workload should be monitored closely this year.

Signing Brocail was a calculated risk.

He could fall apart at any time, given his age. But he pitched well last year, he is projected to pitch well this year. And the Astros re-signed him for a fairly reasonable salary (given his resume)….the team had some leverage, since Brocail wanted to pitch in his hometown. He is considerably cheaper than guys like Juan Cruz or Howry or Affeldt who were comparable players on the market. The Astros’ budget was tight…and if Brocail hadn’t been signed, the Astros probably would have signed a Borkowski type cheapie.
