the Astros need all the help they can get.
A healthy Backe has the chance to rebound. An injured Backe does not.

Besides, you’re not going to last one week into the regular season with optimism like that. What will you do when the Astros are 23 games back in July and Ed Wade is seriously contemplating trading Pence to the Giants for Billy Sadler, a career AAA third baseman, and a risky high-A prospect with virtually no upside? You’ve got to shield yourself with the armor of convenient half-truths, unwarranted hope, and blind speculation. Otherwise, the Astros will become unwatchable after a few weeks.
Thus, I choose to believe that Backe has a chance to rebound.
