It makes NO SENSE
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Did anybody see
the Rockets game today? If you did, you might have seen the commercial for Joe Morgan’s Swing Trainer. Maybe it was the thirty seconds of little leaguers swinging at the damn thing and making that aluminum bat “ping” over and over, but I thought it was pretty fucking funny.
1-1
Japan and Korea are very efficient offensive teams.

Me too
What keeps American teams (i.e. Astros) from signing several of the Korean players?

service commitment
All Korean men must serve two years in the military sometime between the ages of 20 and 30. Makes development difficult.
What of the ones
who received a permanent military exemption for winning the Olympic Gold Medal?

yeah, it depends on your definition of "mirror."
Here’s my argument:
They’re of similar size. They both put themselves in bad situations and then get themselves out of them somewhat miraculously (yeah, I know, every pitcher does that, but work with me here) and have made something of a name for themselves that way. They both have rather impressive repertoires of many different pitches.
But they do so in different ways. Oswalt gets into bad situations usually by giving up a few hits. Matsuzaka does it by walking hitters. Oswalt gets out of those situations mostly by getting groundouts; Dice-K does it mostly by strike outs. Dice-K relies on junk, as you point out, Owsalt relies on changing speeds and great command.
It’s probably not a very good comparison, but they remind me of one another in a weird way.
Oh oh
Tie game, Japanese runners at the corners and no outs

Roy is shaking his arm
I hope it is nervous energy and not a sore arm

Roy is tiring and getting hit hard.
and USA has hitters not fielders out there

ugh
further evidence towards the hypothesis that team defense is one of the few things strongly correlated with playoff success.
Braun AND Dunn in the OF? Jeter at SS when there’s a signficantly better alternative? Was there even an actual right fielder on the US roster? Christ, the USA needs to have a less haphazard philosophy when recruiting players.
At least we get to see Darvish and dream of Drayton one day signing him (very, very unlikely).
Korea v. Japan
No doubt the best two teams in the WBC will face each other for the championship.
I don’t know anything about the starting pitchers for the game, but Korea seems the slighlty better team.
