Is this the best that can be said for Chris Johnson?
From the Fanhouse list:
If the scouting reports on Johnson are true, he may find himself playing for the Astros this year because of his glove, even though it may take his bat a while to catch up.
Oh great, it’s another Adam Everett except he doesn’t field as well as did Everett?
It takes more than pitching to win a pennant, but not much!
See
I was perplexed because from everything I’ve read, his glove isn’t really his selling point.
I see Sutton as our shining hope from the farm system this year.
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I like Sutton better than Johnson at this point, too.
Johnson needs to control his K’s much better to have a chance in the majors, IMO. I have heard that Johnson is supposed to be good with the glove, but I am skeptical how good. The only range based defensive metrics I’m aware of for minor leaguers is Total Zone, and Johnson range was significantly below average last year in the Texas League. Interestingly, Sutton’s defensive range was above average when he played 3d base.
One reason these reports don’t highlight Sutton is that he is 25 years old coming off a AA season, which would mean that he isn’t a “prospect” in some people’s minds. One reason I would like to see Sutton make the roster as a utilitiy infielder is that , if spends another season in the minors without being called up, he will start to get the AAAA tag, which someone mentioned below.
Over the Xmas break, I compiled little profiles of a handful of our players, and I’d forgotten about them until just recently…I’ll post Johnson’s in a few minutes after I make sure all my info is up to date, but basically, most people think he’s got the glove and a rifle of an arm, and his errors are of the throwing type.
Seems Fair
I’m disappointed, but can’t really say that I disagree. Our high minors are pretty barren. Drew Sutton and Chris Johnson are only ever mentioned because of how bare they are. Sutton is a AAAA player, and Johnson is a guy that had half of a good year. Bogusevic is promising, and Norris, Paulino or Nieve could end up being a solid contributor, but injuries and inconsistency make all those guys somewhat doubtful. Out of curiosity, what exactly do you disagree with?

New Season
The promise of another season. What you going to do with $115,000,000? We can’t all live in Florida. The smell of money in the spring.
