Huh
So he spontaneously converted back to sinus (normal) rhythm. Good for him. That actually happens fairly often, but if he does have some kind of underlying condition that caused the problem to start with, it will probably come back at some point.
The echocardiogram that they often do before the cardioversion is transesophageal, meaning they put a big hose with an ultrasound probe through your mouth and down toward the stomach so that they can look at the heart without the ribs in the way. Usually, if they do this before the cardioversion, it is to look for clots in the heart chambers (which could get disseminated to other parts of the body when the heart is beating normally again). Even with anesthesia, it’s a pretty stimulating procedure, so if the a fib didn’t reappear during that, I would consider that optimistic.
I still wonder why he had a fib to start with. . . .
Unbelievable
Mike Hampton has to be one of the unhealthiest players since his departure from the Colorado Rockies. I am glad that he is ok and I hope the Stros can get quality pitching from him throughout the year but it was a risk signing him in the first place because he is oft injured. I remember last year when he was about to make his first start for the Braves and he got hurt warming up for the game…he is the essence of injured. We should have just signed him to a minor league deal but he should make for a good #4 pitcher. Pray for health!
