Roy O says A-Rod's numbers should be erased

Roy Oswalt is angry at the actions of Alex Rodriguez and other steroid users. He feels cheated. A legitimate concern, I'd say. He's mum on former teammate Roger Clemens, for what it's worth.

What say, you?

I understand his setiment, but it isn’t realistic.

i agree

there are still too many unknowns, too much uncertainty to throw out entire seasons’ statistics.

Maybe if there were some hit tracker data on those seasons

You could cancel out the lucky HR or something, because they probably wouldn’t have made if he wasn’t juicing, but I don’t think it’s very reasonable. Those were also his peak years in terms of age, so we should expect him to have out performed his other seasons; making it incredibly difficult to sort through the lies.

Also, if we take away A-Rod’s numbers, we have to take away Bonds’, Tejada’s, Clemens’, and the 103 unnamed players on the list, plus everybody on the Mitchell Report’s numbers as well.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

What are "official" stats anyway?

Elias sports bureau records? The stats at baseball-reference.com? It’s not like MLB is the repository of all stats. Independent statistical bureaus and organizations maintain baseball statistical records. Sometimes they don’t agree with each other. Sure, if Bud Selig said put an asterick by X’s stats, the reporting organizations might well do it, but they don’t have to.

True

and, from my understanding of it, Selig has no control over the hall of fame, either. That’s up to the Hall and BBWAA.
