That's right, the trade is on...
My question is, who are the other teams? What will the Astros have to give up? Rosenthal followed up with another tweet that said the deal should come together quickly. Let's hope for the best people...

Oh God.
I just know we’re going to regret this trade if it gets done. Who could we possibly give up that the Braves would want? The only big league possibility that leaps to mind is Pence, and please, no. They don’t need catchers, so Towles and Castro are out of the question.
The vision leaping into my head is of either losing Pence or the farm burning to the ground. Wade has a chance to make a truly Purpura-like idiot move here.
Keep in mind
Soriano made 6 Mil last year, and is likely due a raise based on his performance in 09.
So the Braves already have about $10 Mil dedicated to the last two innings. They can’t really afford a $6 Million non-closer reliever.
so, we would be taking on all the salary from a player they don’t really want. I don’t think the trade demands will be that great
remember the last braves reliever we traded for?
Granted, in hind sight we didn’t give up much for Villareal, but I can’t help but wonder why the Braves would be so eager to replace Soriano with Wagner/Saito (obviously the ~$6M Soriano looks to earn wasn’t a problem). We’re already paying one ex-Brave reliever to not pitch for us.
Does that fully explain it though? Wagner is also coming off of injury problems. Soriano would still be a bargain value if healthy—an elite closer for at least several million less than elite closers typically cost. Which begs the question… do the Braves think he’s showing signs of impending injury?
That was the point I was attempting to imply
I know the Braves aren’t perceived to the be pitching-related geniuses they were a few years ago, but I still think the fact they’re willing to let a pitcher get away from them, when they can obviously afford to retain him, ought to throw up a red flag, especially considering how much money we lost on Oscar. (run-on sentence much?)
May be a moot point
It looks like we’re heading toward Lindstrom instead, with the Rays being the front-runner for Soriano. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad.
I think the Braves believe that Wagner + Saito ($10 M) is cheaper than Soriano + Gonzalez in arbitration. But in any event, this isn’t about the Braves not wanting Soriano and Gonzalez. They didn’t think they had much choice. The Braves offered Soriano/Gonzalez arbitration and believed that both relievers would take free agency. The Braves then assumed that both relievers would sign elsewhere at a high price, and signed Wagner and Saito in some misguided effort at getting ahead of the curve. They thought they were clever in signing two replacement relievers at a lower total cost. Soriano completely took them by surprise when he accepted arbitration, but at that point the Braves already had Wagner/Saito under contract with promises to give them the closer/set up roles. If the Braves had thought Soriano would accept arbitration, they might not have signed Wagner.
Here's a crazy thought
The Braves are on Oswalt’s approved teams list, right? And more likely to contend next season. What if… we’re looking at Oswalt for Soriano, Lowe, and one or two top prospects? Is that even possible?
that would be a blockbuster
but McLane loves him some O so I doubt it. Interesting offer though.

O won't Go
Roy Oswalt isn’t going anywhere. The Astros will suck next year. Its a fact. Attendance is down. Uncle D has to come up with something to put rears in the seats. Oswalt is 8 wins away from become the Astros all time wins leader. Astros will be fighting for wins next year so Drayton can probably draw this one out over the whole season.
The Braves neither want nor need Oswalt. The Braves have too many starting pitchers. The Braves are in the trade away pitching mode. The thought has crossed my mind that Wade might try a multi-player trade around Soriano. But it would have to be something the Braves are looking for, which at this point is a big RBI slugger bat. I had thought about Carlos Lee, like others have, but I think the NTC would prevent. Perhaps something which sends Pence to the Braves and brings a starting pitcher plus Soriano back to the Astros?
Aghhhllll
Heard in the lobby … astros looking for of help and speed. Pie just one of guys they’re looking at. Lyle(?) one trade poss.
What on earth is the FO thinking if this has even a grain of truth?
