Let him go

All the interest in Hawkins is making me fear a bidding war. If the price is too high, they really need to pass. They should have offered him arbitration; likely he would have accepted, been awarded a reasonable salary, or if not teams wouldn’t be half as interested in him.

now he is a “premier set up man” according to the twitter.

i saw that

there is no in between with latroy. he’s either overrated and washed up, or a premier set up man.

If the Astros re-sign Hawkins, he will be washed up evidence of Wade’s incompetence. If the Brewers sign him for even more money, he will be the premier reliever in the market.

Probably true

The truth is somewhere in between. I wouldn’t mind him coming back for a reasonable price, but I won’t be upset if the Brewers scoop him up. I just don’t want us to overpay him.

I agree

I think statistically he is due for a regression towards his career numbers, as well I think relievers are easily replaceable. Ed Wade should know this considering he picked Wright out of the Rule 5 draft, Byrdak off the released pile, Arias, Fulchino, and Sarafate off the waiver wire.

I’d rather see some of that money spent towards an everyday 3B.
