Around SBN: VIDEO: Austin Rivers' Buzzer Beater Finishes Off UNC

LaTroy Hawkins coming to Indy this afternoon to meet with Astros.

Brian McTaggart, via Twitter. Me thinks a Hawkins signing could be done by the week's end. Just no more than $4 million, Eddy.

I just learned

By reading McTaggart’s blog post, that Hawkins made over $4 million last year. So I guess we probably would have to drop at least $4.5 million + plus incentives to make 2010 work.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Unless they offered a multi-year deal, 8m over two years, with a 3m-5m split. Could work for both sides.

I'm not sure I want Hawkins for more than a year

Though.

Another interesting tweet

from Jayson Stark mentioned that the Braves and Rockies may have fallen out of the Hawkins bidding after the arbitrations decisions last night. I guess the market for him wasn’t as robust as we originally thought. Hopefully, Wade and Co. realize this too.

The other side effect of those players accepting arbitration is that the closer market just became a little thinner with Valverede leading the class.
