That was a minor league sigining I mentioned in a previous article. I actually like the signing. As I said in the article, he is a decent gamble, even though I suspect he ends up in Round Rock as “depth” for the bullpen. Majewski’s FIP for the Philly’s AAA team was in the mid-3’s, and he produces a lot of groundballs. The Astros signed three vets on NRI deals (including Majewski) who are sinkerball pitchers. Lindstrom is a groundball pitcher. Add them to Arias and Sampson, who are also extreme groundball pitchers, and the Astros seem to be showing a marked preference for Dave Duncan-style groundball pitching. The Astros better make sure the infield defense is decent.
Oh I agree
It just appears that we’re piling on a bit. But yes:
-if Wade realizes that relief pitchers’ gb rates are pretty consistent year in and year out (as in, it’s a skill that can be repeated)
-if Mills will be willing to utilize the relievers fluidly instead of placing them in set roles
-and if the infield D improves with Manzella and the return of Matsui
then these signings will make a little more sense

Majewski had a decent career going
until he suffered arm problems in 2006.
Maybe he’s back.
Turning 30 next year, with 3 or 4 years of major league experience, he might prove to be a good pick up (or not) .
