My Ideal Lineup for Today:

Tejada – SS
Bourn – CF
Berkman – 1B
Lee – LF
Pence – RF
Johnson – 3B
Manzella – 2B
Towles – C
Valverde – P (seriously)

Tejada should hit leadoff to get him the most chances to reach 200 hits, but Manzella and Johnson should be playing at this point. I think it’d be cool to see what Valverde can do as a starter (its the last game, so its not like his arm is needed tomorrow), or at least for a couple of innings. Maybe Valverde for 2 or 3, Hawkins for 2 or 3, Fulchino for 2 or 3, if needed put some other guys in.

After 3 Met's lead 1 - 0

Aaron Boone

very likely will end the season with .000 batting average
which is still better than we expected four months ago

Just wondering: Did umpire Angel Hernandez make it through the season

without doing something ultra-stupid in Astros game?

Did he umpire many Astros game? I only recall one game behind the plate; and I don’t think he tossed anyone

I want to say he did, but I can’t point to a specific instance. I just remember loathing him at some point this year, but that could be entirely from reputation.

He had some garden variety terrible umpiring

But I don’t remember whether he ejected anyone.

Granderson saves Detroit (at least temporarily

I tuned in the Detroit game when I saw White Sox had pulled to a 5-3 score and had two runners on base with two outs.

The batter blooped ball in no-man’s zone between left , center, and short stop .

Centerfielder Granderson made a desperate head first slide catch to end the inning. The runners were moving and both would have scored .

Kevin Towers and J.R. Riccardi

Both will be let go, I wonder if they’re going to be sending their resumes to the Astros, and if either one would be considered a candidate.

According to ESPN

Astros scored the fewest runs for an Astros team since 1992.

I wonder how they fared in runs allowed.

2007 was worse

Apparently the team allowed 813 runs that year (compared to 770 this year). Other than that you have to go back to 2000 to find a worse defensive performance (a shocking 944 runs allowed, but the team could actually hit that year).

However, keep in mind that we ranked 13th in the NL this season in ERA and 14th in runs scored.

Puts things into perspective; only the Pirates and Padres were less productive offensively, and only the Pirates, Nationals, and Brewers were worse at preventing earned runs. (The Pirates actually had better pitching though; the Diamondbacks take their place when you shift it to overall runs allowed.)

I hope somebody is showing these figures to Drayton. He needs to understand how big of changes need to be made just to be competitive next season.
